Brave forgot all my sessions and passwords

Description of the issue: I was running several programs, working on a large project and I think something ended up hogging memory. Brave had non-responsive crash.

When I recovered, I noticed that Brave wasn’t offering a saved password that it had formerly saved.

Later I realized that I was logged out of everything. Brave forgot all my sessions. I then realized that Brave forgot all my passwords as well.

Whatever, glitches happen, but what confounds me is that Brave apparently doesn’t make automatic backups or encourage them. Why not?

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. There’s no easy way to reproduce this

Expected result: Some kind of backup periodic backup process. I would also expect that user data be automatically backed up after re-launching after a catastrophic crash

Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave [Brave 1.80.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)]
Chromium: 138.0.7204.97

Additional Information:

@confounded I’m very sorry that this happened. Are you running as an admin? have you made any changes to your User Data folder? Do you have sync enabled?

Thanks in advance for any additional information!

No, I didn’t ever make any changes to user data.

No, I wasn’t participating in Brave Sync.

Back to my original point, Brave should be doing this built-in, especially since you don’t have the automatic cloud backup that Chrome does from signing in.

I can see that people have had this issue for years, and all the threads die because there is no solution to recover their passwords, nor is there any intent to build a feature that prevents privacy-focused people from encountering this problem themselves.
