I have the same issue except for me, I just closed down Brave and when I reopened it, it claimed that it didn’t shut down correctly and that some new feature (I think it is) was now in the settings. I only found out about my passwords being gone when I tried to log into my company website to finish work and the auto login not working nor inputting my information. Hopefully this doesn’t happen again, if it does then I might have to switch back to another browser until it’s noticed by the devs and fixed. I thought it would only be me with the bug but I guess not.
Yes, I think Brave installed new version/feature, but something went wrong. Next (manual) start reported incorrect shutdown, and after that: passwords disappeared. I think Brave informed me about some monitoring feature (apparently private) now available in settings during startup.

That’s just tip of the iceberg. After last update, MS Defender usage become insane, anti-malware is chocking my HD (no SSD) once Brave is activated. Whom to blame? Brave is crashing every 2-3 days, maybe that’s why is anti-malware on steroids now. Or is MS having problem to “find” a bug similar to bug slowing down Firefox for several years?
Hi @gdshred
Thanks for the information, I’ve shared this with our team and I’m waiting for further information on the matter. Once our team has answers, we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Have a great day!
Hi @Alice2095
I actually started my own thread on this after giving it a few days with no activity on this one: https://community.brave.com/t/re-after-brave-crash-lost-all-passwords/483463/5.
Supposedly this is already being looked into. Rather silly at this point anyway as I’ve had to rebuild almost the entire password history in there by now.
Today the antimalware increased the memory usage from 167MB to almost 500MB, this was happening at startup and after Brave had been running for a while. On close, anti-malware memory usage immediately returned to its previous level. Not to mention 100% disk usage.
