Brave Crashes Clicking X on Private Tab (Control+W Ok)

Description of the issue:

When closing a Private Tab with the mouse and clicking the “X” on the last tab, Brave will crash and close the non-private tabs as well.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave.
  2. Control+Shift+N for a Private Tab
  3. Click the “X” at the end of the “New Private Tab”

Expected result:

I would expect the Private Tab to close and the non-private tabs to remain open, but they all close. I get the expected behavior with the keyboard shortcut Control+W.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Brave is up to date
Version 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

Just started today, July 25th, and I disabled all extensions and still get the same behavior.

Additional testing shows it is only crashing when clicking the Private Tab’s X button, and other keyboard shortcuts like Alt+F4 and clicking the application windows X (next to min/max buttons on the right) all work fine.

Thanks for raising the issue with good detail and also circling back with our latest release today. Other folks definitely were experiencing this too - your help is appreciated :smile:

I wish we had a cleaner root cause identified - but we can investigate further if anyone is still having an issue and can share more information. I went ahead and closed the GitHub issue.
