Description of the issue:
Brave says that it cannot update, must be reinstalled.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I don’t think that this can be reproduced. It is a random message that pops up, almost daily.

Expected result:
I want Brave to update, and I want to stop getting notifications that the only way is to reinstall it. That is an unreasonable solution.

** Brave Version( check About Brave):**
Version 1.0.0 Chromium: 78.0.3904.97 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Operating system is (Linux) Deepin 20

That’s actually quite an old version of Brave. How did you install it the first time? Did you follow the Debian instructions on https://brave.com/linux/#debian-9-ubuntu-1404-and-mint-17?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I don’t remember where I downloaded that version from, but it was less than two months ago, and I’m sure that I just took what was offered.

I wouldn’t mind reinstalling Brave, but I have so many essential bookmarks, that I can’t risk losing them with a reinstall. THAT is the issue!

Unlike other browsers, Brave does not seem to provide an option to export bookmarks, (like all other browsers do). At the moment, I am just waiting, but if I cannot solve this puzzle soon, I will have to abandon Brave, and move on. Too bad, too, because I like the way it works.

Thank you,

Ralph Brock

It’s not easy to find, but it is there. Go into Menu | Bookmarks | Bookmarks manager:

and then click on the three tiny dots in the top right corner to import/export:

Hallelujah! There it is! You were right. It is hard to find. Maybe that would be an easy fix for the Brave team on their next upgrade. Thank you so much for sticking with me.

Merci,

Ralph
