Brave browser takes 12 seconds to start

My Brave browser takes 12 seconds to load on start-up. The problem only occurs when I open the browser from scratch. It does not affect the opening of a second window or tab.

During the 12-second load, only the top-right “minimise, resize, close” buttons are visible. There are no tabs, no search bar, and no bookmark bar. Any interaction with the browser during the 12-second load will lead to a “Brave.exe not responding” pop-up.

I have cleared my browsing history, download history, website cookies, and cache images; I have tried disabling my extensions, but the problem persists. I created a new profile and the problem disappeared, so the issue is tied to my user data. I also tried reinstalling Brave, but it did not work.

Brave Version: Brave 1.80.120 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 138.0.7204.101

@Kozakos - suggestions:

When clearing cache etc., select Time range > All time

Disable and Uninstall all extensions

Exit / Quit everything and Restart computer. Test issue.

Do computer Restart before testing a profile.

If issue resolved, test each extension one-at-time, then combinations, then, the order of their installation.

Questions: Does “problem” profile A use a lot of tabs? Is the “problem” profile A History file size remarkably large after clearing history - relative to the History file of the new profile B?

With Brave Browser not running, compare some of the 2 profiles’ items - sizes for example.

I have already cleared all of my browser history. I removed all my extensions and restarted my computer, but the problem persists.

Yes, profile A does use a lot of tabs sometimes.

For “History” file size, after a wipe, it is 192 KB for profile A, and 160 KB for the newly created profile B.

@Kozakos if you’ve tried uninstalling all your extensions already and it didn’t make any difference, then my next guess would be that one of the tabs you have open is causing the slow down, especially if the issue does not happen with a new profile. You may want to try maybe bookmarking any important tabs you have opened in the browser, then closing all of them and testing to see if the issue still occurs.

The issue occurs when I start-up Brave from scratch, i.e. when there is no instance of Brave running, and thus with no tabs opened.

Brave starting slow Try clearing cache disabling extensions or reinstalling to speed it up.

Same here, Brave for Windows 11 is very, very, very (very) slow since 3 to 4 months.

My Brave for Android is very snappy though!

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to test all the shenanigans of disabling extensions “et al”.
