Brave Browser is so Slow

I have been using the Brave browser for 6 years now. At first it was fast but then the performance became slower and slower over time. I have been clearing cache, disabling extensions, and also turned off hardware acceleration. However, I still get the same issue. Moreover, loading new tabs constantly pops up the sign of “page unresponsive” every single time! Plus, loading takes forever especially when there is a cloudfare verification huhu please address this issue.

Please edit your Original Post (“OP”) above, to include:

  • Brave Browser version numbers
  • Operating System version numbers

Please be prepared:

  • Make note of Brave Browser Settings that you would manually restore (Yeah, it is a lot of paperwork. Saving screenshots, will be easier.)
  • Back up bookmarks (and tabs, as bookmarks)
  • Back up passwords

Please back up your BraveSoftware folder:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\


Please use the Guest Profile or create an additional Brave Browser Profile, for testing.

Menu → More tools → Open Guest profile
Menu → More tools → Add new profile

If your issue is resolved with either of those other Profiles, then the Profile that you have been using, may have one or more settings that contribute to the cause of your issue.


The “File System” folder - can grow to be LARGE and require attention:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\File System\

One or more extensions that you have installed, might be problematic.

Note, that BB user learned to fully restart BB, in order to test effectively.


Too many Tabs.


Clear more than only the cache.

Go to brave://settings/clearBrowserData Advanced tab

Time range: All time

ENABLE:

  • Browsing history
  • Download hsitory
  • Cookies and other site data
  • Cached images and files

Click Clear data

Exit / Quit BB. Start BB. Test.
