I imported bookmarks from Firefox and all those imported bookmarks show up in my Bookmarks Manager which is great.
When I select some of those imported bookmarks, the web page opens and the Bookmarks Flag Icon on the URL Bar is black and has text stating “Edit bookmark for this tab” which is exactly what should happen.
However, when I select some other imported bookmarks, the web page opens and the Bookmarks Flag Icon on the URL Bar is white and has text stating “Bookmark this tab” which is not what should happen because the item is already in my Bookmarks Manager.
Why does Brave recognize some of the bookmarks in my Bookmarks Manager and not others?
Expected result:
When I select a bookmark, the resulting tab should always show that the bookmark already exists (a black Bookmark Flag Icon) in my Bookmarks Manager and not ask me to save it again.
@LaurelValley,
I see what you’re saying now. That is strange. If you click on the bookmark flag again (the one that’s white/not filled in), then click Remove, then re-add the bookmark, does it stay added/filled in?
If I edit an existing bookmark and save it, then that bookmark shows up with the black flag when I open it. If I add any new bookmark, it always shows up with the black flag when I open it. It seems like some of the imported bookmarks are recognized as bookmarks and others aren’t - for whatever reason. I hope this helps.
I investigated this issue more and found a factor that determines when my imported bookmarks show a black bookmark flag versus a white bookmark flag when I click on and open that bookmark.
I tested this on 25 of my imported bookmarks and it followed the pattern 100% of the time.
If my imported bookmark has a URL beginning with HTTP in the Bookmark Manager, then the opened tab has a white bookmark flag on it.
If my imported bookmark has a URL beginning with HTTPS in the Bookmark Manager, then the opened tab has a black bookmark flag on it.
If I add a new bookmark in Brave, that new bookmark has a URL beginning with HTTPS in the Bookmark Manager and the opened tab has a black bookmark flag on it.
I looked at the github link you provided and see that Brave developers closed this issue out without making any changes because there is a difference with importing http and https bookmarks. I accept their reasoning based on the extra features Brave uses to upgrade sites to https. I thank you for your assistance.
