When viewing a Brave website and hovering over the icon left of the URL it displays “Bookmark this tab” with all other web sites the Icon is black and it displays “Edit Bookmark For This Tab.” How do I bookmark the other web site?
Description of the issue: New Brave install and bookmark import worked fine. When I click on “Edit Bookmark For This Tab”, then, select “Bookmark Toolbar & Done”. Nothing seems to happen. I can’t find the item I tried to save.
How can this issue be reproduced? Follow the steps above
Expected result: Expect to find saved bookmark in Bookmark Toolbar
@lws,
Testing on my end, this works just fine. Can you confirm that you’re using the latest version of the browser? Additionally, if you try this using the bookmark icon on the left side of the address bar, do you get the same results?
@lws I think he might have gotten to you, but let me explain then. When you see the words “Edit bookmark for this tab” it means it’s already a saved bookmark. If it’s not already an existing Bookmark, it will instead say “Bookmark This Tab.”
If you need to see where the Bookmarks are at, hit the three lines toward the top right and then you can go to Bookmarks to see them or even to Bookmark Manager. There is also a Bookmark Bar on the browser, but I can’t remember if it’s activated right away or if you have to turn it on. If needed to be on, you would go to brave://settings/appearance and turn on the toggle for Show Bookmarks.
If you turn it on in Appearances, then you’ll see a Bookmarks Bar appear underneath the search/url bar.
Maybe I just don’t know where to look for the bookmark. I mainly us Bookmark Toolbar. The ones I imported from Firefox appear across the top and I click “>>” on the right to view the remainder. New Brave bookmarks never show in either place.
@lws Also check on folders. In Bookmark Manager, if the bookmarks you’re trying to access aren’t on your Bookmarks folder and instead are listed in something like Other, Mobile, or whatever, it may not show up on the desktop version or whatever you’re accessing from.
I know mine doesn’t say “Bookmark Toolbar” but instead says “Bookmarks” for the folder. So if yours does read “Bookmark Toolbar” or some other name, it might just be saved on a different folder that isn’t associated with the Bookmark bar itself?
Sorry, maybe I shouldn’t be mentioning since Mattches is actively here now, but was seeing if maybe I was picking up on issue.
I have confirmed your statement about the “save bookmark” turning to “edit bookmark”. I also confirmed that Show Bookmarks is turned on. Moreover, all my imported bookmarks are present I am just not able to find any new ones that I try to save. I admit I’m newbe to Brave but I’ve been doing this for decades using Firefox.
@lws,
Can you confirm that they’re not appearing at the bottom of the additional bookmarks (>>) drop down menu on the toolbar? Again you may need to scroll down while the menu is open to view them.
Okay, so what you didn’t mention is going to Bookmark Manager and then looking what folders things are in. For example, look in my screenshot below of my Bookmark Manager. The things shown in the middle are what actually shows on my Bookmark Bar. But you’ll notice a folder called Other Bookmarks which doesn’t show in the middle. There is also Mobile Bookmarks which is separate.
So I’m asking where your backup is and if it’s actually included as part of your Bookmark folder of if it’s something separate like my Mobile Bookmarks and Other Bookmarks folders are. That might be your issue.
I just found the new bookmarks I’ve been saving. Here are the steps:
Click >> at the right of the bookmark toolbar
Run the cursor all the way to the last entry which is a folder titled “Imported From Firefox(1)”. Just above it is a folder “Imported From Firefox” (that one doesn’t work).
Clicking on the “Imported From Firefox (1)” opens another dialog box with eight folders and two bookmarks.
Click on the folder “Bookmarks Toolbar” opens the complete list of bookmarks (old and new)
It is bazar to think I have to do that each time I want to see my Bookmarks Toolbar
You can click/drag the desired folder from that drop-down menu onto the toolbar directly for easier access (or simply drag it up in that drop down to a more convenient position).
@lws Yeah, so it’s like I said. Everything is saved in its own folder. So you’d need to drag them out of that so they can be part of your general Bookmarks, rather than existing in a separate folder that is part of Bookmarks.
Of course, you’re only able to have like 13 bookmarks on your Bookmark Bar that’s visible at all times. Beyond that, you’d have to click on the >> button. Not sure how many Bookmarks you have.
Anyway, I’d just move things out of those “Imported From” folders and then delete the empty folders. Make sure to arrange as you’d like in your Bookmark Manager.
I clicked/dragged the new found Bookmarks Toolbar folder (step 4 of my last entry) to the first item on my browser displayed “Bookmarks Toolbar”, what I will refer to as my real 'Bookmark Toolbar", and I can open it from there (old & new). I have a lot in my toolbar. That’s just the way I operate.
I can delete the items in my real “BT” without affecting the items in the new found folder. However, I don’t know what will happen if I delete the last folder where I finally found everything.
I can also move Items from the new found folder to the real “BT”, but that means I have to do that every time I save a new Bookmark. This seems totally unreasonable to me.
I am certainly no expert and I guess I will eventually get this all figured out but this certainly not intended for a novice.
I solved this issue on my own today.
Here’s what I did.
I backed up the default folder located here: C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\default
just saved a copy of it in Documents.
I installed iObit Uninstaller because it was a registry issue on my part. Registry issues sometimes occur if you change a username in your Users folder for example, could cause a lot of issues, so Brave was affected for me.
iObit Uninstaller is nice because it cleans registry so they can be freshly installed.
I reinstalled Brave Browser.
I imported my Bookmarks with my backed up version of default located in Documents.
You can probably also just import an HTML file.
