Answer with AI operating for some searches even though it is disabled

Description of the issue: I have “Answer with AI” disabled for brave search and the AI buttons blocked using the custom filter. For the vast majority of searches, I do not see an AI summary as expected. However, when I search “memphis college middle high school” there is an AI summary that appears despite the “Answer with AI” option being disabled (see screenshot). I have replicated the issue using Brave search in the Brave browser on my macbook and my iphone. I have also replicated the issue using Brave search on my macbook in Chrome. I understand this issue has been reported before, but I wanted to add my experience and also see if there are any updates regarding a resolution. Thank you!

Brave Version (check About Brave): Version 1.74.48 Chromium: 132.0.6834.83 (Official Build) (arm64)

Operating System: MacBook Air: M1, 2020 running macOS Sequoia Version 15.2

I usually send BB to the Brave Search Settings webpage:

https://search.brave.com

I disable Brave Search Settings:

  • Answer with AI
  • Discussions

Then I click on the Brave icon:

Using your search criteria “memphis college middle high school” my Brave Browser search field area looks like:

I ignore the “Answer with AI” - I never select that.

Search result:

No AI Summary

Hi, thanks so much for your response!

I followed your instructions and I also do not get an AI summary if I enter “memphis college middle high school” in quotation marks. However, I think the quotation marks in my original post may have been misleading. I was not using quotation marks in my original search, I only added the quotation marks in my post because I was quoting my search input. I had both Answer with AI and Discussions disabled originally and when testing again.

To clarify, if I search for: memphis college middle high school with no quotation marks or anything (as shown in the screenshot including in my original post), I see an AI summary. Are you able to replicate that?

Thanks again for your help!
