While I am not sure if this qualifies as a bug, I’m checking in to see what is going on.
To summarize, I try to keep “Answer with AI” off and Safe Mode set to Strict before running a search. I have Forgetful Browsing off for Brave Search, and the browser was set to not purge all cookies on browser exit to try and keep settings from being reset due to cookie deletion. Sometimes, this keeps my settings as they are, but alarmingly often, “Answer with AI” is re-enabled. Sometimes, Safe Mode is reset to Moderate as well.
In case this might be relevant, I am still using Windows 10, build 22H2. (It won’t stay that way forever, as I will eventually migrate to Linux.) However, this happens practically every time when on Android, even with the settings matching.
Does anyone know what might be happening to cause these settings to not be saved despite my best efforts? I know AI is a big part of Brave (Look at Leo, for example), but not everyone is looking for AI.
I think I may have figured this out. Though it seems like no one is interested, I’ll just say it anyway in case someone else has a similar issue down the line.
The reason why my Brave Search settings kept getting reset? AdGuard automatically purging first-party cookies. I told it to stop doing so, and I haven’t had to fix my settings as often. “Answer with AI” is still periodically re-enabling itself in spite of this. (I just checked.) I’ve also got it squared away on Android (by telling the browser to not purge cookies when it is closed), and it is now at the very least keeping my settings. Interestingly enough, Answer with AI is not re-enabling itself on that platform.
Overall, it’s possible that there is something else on the Windows side of things, but I am satisfied with my progress thus far.
Scroll down to the ‘AI’ and ‘Discussions’ settings, Disable them, and then scroll up . . . all the way to the top of the BS Settings page, and in the upper-left corner, click on the Brave icon.
Has been routine, since also encountering the bug that you have reported.
