"An error occurred" at youtube (even on private mode)

Description of the issue:

I receive the “An error occurred” two times per video, EVERY VIDEO. Even in private mode. I’ve already tried clearing cache, using another account, using private mode. Nothing works.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Open youtube.com, select a video and play it.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:

Play video without it.

Reproduces how often:

Everytime I open a video

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

Windows 10
Version 1.8.90 Chromium: 81.0.4044.129 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

Can you update to the latest Brave? and retest

I thought I was already using the latest. The icon just got green and I restarted (before I posted this message here)… It seems like it’s another bug: it can’t update automatically. I’m doing it manually now, I’ll retest asap

Well, that seem to fix it, thanks!!

Anyway, when I go to “check for updates” in “about brave”, I get this message: An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80004002 – system level).

What can I do to fix it so brave can update automatically? This link just shows me how to install it manually

@lucasrato,
If you install the latest update manually, the next time an update is available this message should not appear :+1:

well, I thought that the last time I did it a couple months ago…

I’m with the latest update, but the message still appears (I know there isn’t an update yet, but it should show me a message saying I’m up to date, right?)

Hmm yes it should. Can you try running the offline installer found here on our Github and see if it applies the appropriate updates and removes the error message? You’ll see the Windows Standalone options towards the bottom of the list:

Done. No changes. When I executed the Standalone, it appeared “connecting to the internet…” or something like that, so I turned off my connection and ran it again. The message still appeared, installed normally. I executed, but when I enter “about brave” I get the same message

@lucasrato,
Do you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time? Additionally, are you connected to a VPN by chance? Does your anti-virus software monitor/block network traffic at all?

@Mattches I’ve created another topic, to stay organized (and in case someone with the same problem shows up searching for it)
