YouTube - Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available

I’m trying to watch Mad Max on YouTube but can’t because of a video format problem. I searched and found the following posts:

None of the posts seem to have a solution and more importantly, none of the posts seem to provide a useful troubleshooting methodology. I started using Brave after watching The Social Dilemma and I’m more concerned about Google’s reach but I still want to be able to use my web browser to watch YouTube videos. I’m happy to investigate this issue more and would appreciate guidance.

I’m running Brave Version 1.14.84 Chromium: 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit) with the following extensions:

  • LastPass: Free Password Manager
  • Remove YouTube Recommended Videos, Comments

Which sadly claims that my browser is up-to-date even though it’s clearly not working.

How should I troubleshoot my video format problem?

Try test in Private window mode, and try with a different video?

Private window mode didn’t work. In fact, all my purchased YouTube movies do not work. However, if I watch a regular YouTube video it does work.

If you open the same video in Chrome, does it play?

Yes. It’s also much snappier than Firefox. For example, Chrome is able to rewind and fast-forward using the arrow keys but Firefox freezes. Brave is not able to play the movie. I wonder if Google Chrome is built so purchased YouTube videos only work with Google Chrome.

I just tested with Safari and the video doesn’t even load; however, there is a different error message:

An error occurred. Please try again later. Error code: 4

I know some youtube movies are geo protected, depending on the location. Trying a different location via VPN may help.

I’m not sure what else to check, maybe test from another computer on the network? (to rule out the computer)

plus the vpn try to enable widevine at setting page

Just for info - I have the same error, only when logged in. And everything works fine in Chrome…just BRAVE that cannot play videos on YouTube. I have tried all type of other ‘solutions’ like removing Cookies, changing site settings, removing shields…nothing works. Please see what you can do…Brave Community/Support.
