Youtube showing popup for ad blockers

Brave helped a lot in preventing annoying ads on youtube, but seems like they now detect the adblocker.

This is not linked with version. I have three different versions of brave on different systems. In all of them it shows this popup.

I’m having the same issue. Windows 11. I’m also getting at the start of vid plays an empty ad with a button to skip ads. It seems to last the length of an ad, but is blank.
I’m hoping Brave can provide a fix soon.
version 1.59.117 chromium 118.0.5993.70 (official build) (64-bit)
Thank you~

So I got another update, (green colored updated box in top right) and restarted the brave. Now it is again showing this popup

I tried in android application, the same video is working fine. No popup whatsoever.

Still and issue using brave 1.5.9.117
You can brave block element on the popup.
But then it will come up with an overlay which you can delete:

<tp-yt-iron-overlay-backdrop style="z-index: 2201;" opened="" class="opened"><!--css-build:shady-->
</tp-yt-iron-overlay-backdrop>

which let’s you play the video but then it wont let you scroll down the window which I haven’t figured out yet.

Noticed this too. Doesn’t come up on every video. If it comes up, I just hit reload and it doesn’t come up again for that video.

It’s not limited to Brave only. Chrome and Edge are doing the same.
I’m using uBlock Origin 1.52.2 and although I receive the same message I just close it and the videos play without ads. You can also try Adblock for YouTube both available from the Chrome store. I guess they’ll still try and block them until 3rd. party open source developers find a work around. It’s the veritable dog chasing it’s tail.

The pop-up can be closed and we can continue watching videos. Ads won’t be played despite the warning pop-up.

I had the same problem it started a week ago the same thing came up before every video and after I closed it there seem to be no problems but some days after it blocked all videos and I couldn’t watch a single one so I turned off my ad blocker for about an hour and after I turned it back on the problem was solved and it didn’t show up ever since

I think it’s a general issue of Chromium-based browsers since Google manages Chromium and owns YouTube. When using Firefox (not Chromium-based) with uBlock origin, I do not run into that problem. I don’t know what happens if you update Brave to the latest version, as my laptop is too old to get updates. :woman_shrugging:
