I recently noticed that the dark/light mode feature has been removed from the toolbar menu for Android phones. I was really disappointed to see this go, as it was a very useful feature. I know that there is an experimental night mode feature available, but I don’t like it because it doesn’t automatically switch between dark and light mode based on the phone’s system settings.
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this change and if there was any reason why the feature was removed. I hope that Brave team will reconsider their decision and bring back the dark/light mode feature to the toolbar menu for Android phones.
In the meantime, I would be interested to hear from other users about how they are dealing with the lack of this feature.
You can access this setting by going to Settings --> Appearance. Here you can toggle on the experimental night mode setting, as well as swap your browser theme between light and dark mode by tapping on Theme.

The problem is that it doesn’t automatically switch between dark and light mode based on my phone’s system settings. I would like to find a way to do this so that I don’t have to manually change the setting every time.
#darken-websites-checkbox-in-theme-setting flag was removed in v116 Chromium. Hence Brave lost the feature. I used to use it pretty often and it provided pretty accurate dark mode of original websites.
It would be awesome to have this feature as a simple toggle on/off switch to switch the browser into night mode after the sun goes down to make reading easier on the eyes.
I’ve used the experimental feature on both desktop and android, which is great, but you have to restart Brave and then you lose your place in whatever feed you were reading and have to start over again at the top.
