Why does Brave make calls to www.google-analytics.com?

Description of the issue:
I have both Brave Shields and uBlock Origin installed on my browser and therefore, expect www.google-analytics.com to be blocked (I may be wrong). However, it looks like Brave makes calls to www.google-analytics.com every once in a while as my firewall tries to block such a connection. I am not sure if this is something that Brave does on purpose or this is a consequence of browsing specific websites.

Any explanation is very much appreciated.

Did the issue present with default Shields settings?
Yes

Brave version (check About Brave):
Version 1.36.112 Chromium: 99.0.4844.51 (Official Build) (x86_64)

We block google analytics 2 ways, via a network rule in Easyprivacy

||google-analytics.com^$third-party

and via uBO

! Redirect to neutered Google Analytics
||google-analytics.com/analytics.js$script,redirect=google-analytics.com/analytics.js

! Redirect to neutered Google Analytics Experiments
||google-analytics.com/cx/api.js$script,redirect=google-analytics.com/cx/api.js

There are some cases to work around google-anaylytics bugs there is exceptions to some of these rules. But for 99% of sites it won’t matter.

@maximusc ,

Go to brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the “On exit” tab

DISABLE (UNCHECK): “Site and Shields Settings” and click the Save button.

Go to brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Not allowed to use javascript

Click the Add button

Enter google-analytics.com as the site . . . but do not Enable

  • Current Private session only

Click the Add button

Repeat those steps for other sources that you want to block.
