I am using Max OS Ventura. My Brave says it’s out of date and can’t be updated. Why won’t it update?
Versions of Brave Browser stable releases:
https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_DESKTOP.md
Try the latest version - click on the number, and the page will redirect to
https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.75.178
Scroll down to and click on:
BEFORE you run the installer, delete the following 3 items:
-
/Users/username/Library/Caches/BraveSoftware/
-
/Users/username/Library/Caches/com.brave.Browser/
-
/Users/username/Library/Saved Application State/com.brave.Browser.savedState/
Exit / Quit BB. And I would restart your Mac. Then try the installer.
Where Brave Browser has usually been installed on the Mac:
/Applications/Brave Browser.app
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter/Brave Browser ... .plist
/Users/username/Library/BraveSoftware/
/Users/username/Library/Caches/BraveSoftware/
/Users/username/Library/Caches/com.brave.Browser/
/Users/username/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Brave Browser ... .crash
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.brave.Browser.plist
/Users/username/Library/Saved Application State/com.brave.Browser.savedState/
And the “Brave Browser … .diag” reports within:
/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
You might not find:
/Users/username/Library/BraveSoftware
. . . do not worry about that.
That information is a guide, in case you decide to completely remove the Brave Browser installation . . . and run a fresh installation.
Thanks but i know how to wipe it and install from scratch, but I have a LOT of data, many profiles, hundreds/thousands of bookmarks, extensions and all sorts. I don’t want to lose everything, I just want to update. Why won’t it do it?
@NoMoreFirefox if you install from https://brave.com/download/ and run the installer on top, it would do a manual update and you shouldn’t lose nothing. Key thing is don’t uninstall, but just install on top.
If you have concerns about loss, then can always make sure to perform a backup of anything important first. But I’d say trying the manual update by installing on top would be the best bet first, then advise if you have issues with that.
Thanks. I do have a system backup.
So I simply go to download page and download as if it was first time I was installing. Then run the installer and drop it into Applications folder, overwriting old one. Is that right?
Still would love to know why it won’t just damn update!!
Thanks again
@NoMoreFirefox yeah. Without uninstalling you just go to the page and pretend you’re getting it for the firs time. It runs the installation package and would basically be a manual update.
And yeah, no idea what error you have where it’s being prevented. If you still have issues after we’ll try to ping in some from Brave just to make sure we’re considering things right. But also want to make sure, you are running Mac Ventura which is MacOS 13 or whatever, right?
Yep Ventura OSX 13
Thanks
