Brave won't update

  1. Brave won’t install new update
  2. First says replace old version. ( click yes)
  3. Says can’t because Brave is being used
  4. I quit Brave and again move Brave to applications folder. Again replace older version. (yes replace)
  5. Response from Brave is: Can’t because you currently have Brave.
  6. Tried putting Brave in trash, won’t let me.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Brave Browser version numbers
  • MacOS version

Where Brave Browser is usually installed on a Mac OS computer.

  • /Applications/Brave Browser.app

  • /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/(Brave Browser diagnostic reports - filename extension: .diag)

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/BraveSoftware/ (older versions)

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/Caches/BraveSoftware/

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/(Brave Browser crash reports - filename extension: .crash)

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/Preferences/com.brave.Browser.plist


IMHO, you would save time by backing up to a safe location (such as an external USB drive), the BraveSoftware folder:

  • /Users/your_user_shortname/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/

And:

Then REMOVE the Brave Browser installation, entirely.

And then, start from scratch.
