Description of the issue:
(I am not familiar using a community platform like this.) I have the 7 day free trail of the VPN and my wifi printer disables when the VPN is turned on. It works when I turn the VPN off. How do I get my WiFi printer to connect to my computer when the VPN is turned on? This is any printing, not just printing from the internet.
The issue you’re running into is most likely because your VPN changes your IP address and routes your traffic through a different location. That means your computer and your printer are no longer on the same local network, which breaks the connection needed for printing.
Brave VPN doesn’t innately offer split tunneling, which would let you keep local traffic like your printer outside of the VPN while everything else still goes through it. It might be possible to set that up through your operating system since Brave VPN uses WireGuard, but I haven’t personally tested that and can’t give exact instructions.
Also, it would help to know more about your setup, like which version of Windows you’re using (Windows 10, 11, etc.), what printer model you have, and which version of Brave you’re on. These details make a big difference in troubleshooting.
As a potential workaround, if your printer manufacturer offers a companion app (for example, HP Smart), those apps can sometimes handle connectivity better and may be able to communicate with your printer even while the VPN is on.
