Description of the issue:
VPN: When opening links from apps, connection sometimes breaks. The problem has existed for several years, but has not yet been resolved.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):

  1. be on mobile network (not wifi) and have an active VPN Connection
  2. disable adblocker in Brave
  3. close the browser completely via the task manager
  4. open a link from another application

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
you (sometimes) get an err_internet_disconnected or err_network_changed error

Expected Result:
The page should load without errors

Reproduces how often:
In approx. 2 out of 5 cases

1.75.178 Stable; Also tested on the acutal beta and nightly

Reproducible on current live release (yes/no):
Yes

Additional information:
Tested with various Android-based devices. Not reproducible on iOS devices.

You might

  • free your Android device from any backup/sync chain, while:
  • be sure that you actually exit/quit BB (instead of only, merely closing tabs/windows)
  • clear cache etc. (everything that you can)
  • do 2 complete shutdowns of the device

In other words, try to shake off any setting, site specific setting, etc. that is sticking and effectively causing something like “continuing where you left off.”

Thank you very much for your advice @289wk. I have already tried everything you have described, even a new installation of Brave was not successful. The problem has existed for several years and on various end devices.
