Videos won't play in some sites

On some sites, video will load but not play. I can even download, but not play online.

How can this issue be reproduced?

1.One of the sites is https://learn.doggyflix.com/connected/video-one/ or video-two/ or video-three, etc. Dog training site.
2. Another is https://familytreewebinars.com/. Enter the site, click on any free video (unless you have a membership)–a good selection can be found under FamilySearch–and click on a video. It’ll load, but not play.
3. Almost any WebinarJam video.

Expected result:
Video loads and also plays.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
I’ve gone through my settings and can’t find anything that seems amiss. I always end up copying the URL to Firefox and watching it on that browser. The exception is WebinarJam, where I have to watch it on Google (ugh).

I’ve reset Widevine and tried Shields Down to no effect.

@rosawoodsii thank you for the detailed report.
So both of these sites play video just fine for me on both Windows and macOS in the latest Brave stable build.

Can you please try launching Brave, opening a Guest profile window (Menu --> More tools --> Guest Profile), then close your original profile window (so only the guest profile is open) and try viewing video content on those sites in the guest profile and tell me if you get the same results?

When I used a guest login (Privacy window?), they worked fine. Then I turned off all my extensions and restarted the browser, and no difference. So, it’s got to be a setting, but I’ve gone through them all (I think) and can’t determine which one(s). Any ideas?

Maybe make a new profile and make one change at a time until I find what breaks it? If I reset everything in my old profile, I won’t know what the differences are.

I wonder if you may just need to clear cache/browsing data for those sites. Can you try visiting any of them, then click the “tune” icon to the left of the address bar, then Site settings then click both Delete data and Reset permissions.

Refresh the page and try again.

I just finished going through every setting, comparing each to the defaults on the Guest Profile. It turned out to be under Shield and Site Settings. Both of those sites had autoplay blocked. Autoplay, to my mind, should mean only don’t play automatically, do it when I click on it, but apparently not. At any rate, it’s fixed.

Yeah that shouldn’t be the case – autoplay has some weird behavior when it comes to embedded video content. I’ll pass this onto the team for review.

Thank you. This helped me as well. I was using Firefox for some sites because of this.
