Upon opening Brave, reopening closed tabs not functioning properly

Description of the issue:
When I reopen the Brave browser, if I try to reopen a closed tab (or window), it will reopen the first one. However, if I repeat this action, it reopens the exact same tab/window. If I repeat it again, I get the action I am looking for.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave
  2. Right-click the menu bar and select “Reopen closed tab (or window)”
  3. Repeat step 2.
  4. (Repeat step 2 again to get the result that should have happened in step 3)

Expected result:
I would expect it to open the next previous window.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.26.74 Chromium: 91.0.4472.124 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@afk37212,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Strange issue though – on my end, when I repeat step 2, I do get the tab that was closed before the last one opened (that is, I get the expected behavior your describe). To be clear, you are performing step two without closing any tabs in between, is that correct?

@Mattches,
My apologies, I didn’t describe the behavior properly. I was describing behavior I had seen before. At some point over the past few months, it changed a bit.

Now, when I perform step 2, it only gives the option to “Reopen closed window”. When I click that, it opens an identical copy of the window that opened with Brave. After that, the “Reopen closed tab” or “window” works normally.

Hello!
Check the settings from your device system.

@Vitalis What settings are you referring to?

@Mattches,
Were you able to reproduce the problem?

Can you send a Screen recording of it… I still didn’t understand your problem.

@afk37212,
I apologize for the late reply. Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce – and now that I’m re-reading this issue, I’m not entirely sure I understand the problem you’re encountering. What exactly is the desired behavior here as compared to what’s actually happening?

@Mattches
I usually have multiple browser windows open. Now, let’s say I close all of them down (to shut down the system, etc).
Next time I open Brave, the last window I closed opens up. I right-click and click to reopen the previously closed window (the 2nd to last one I closed before shutdown). I would expect it to open that 2nd to last one I had closed, but it opens another copy of the first window that opened during this session (the last one closed before shutdown).

@ItzMeRajat
Where would you suggest for me to upload a video of a screen recording?

@afk37212,
If you had more than one window with multiple tabs, it should be denoted separately in the History menu, like so:

Do you not see them denoted separately?

No need of a video… I do understand your problem now…

And as Mattches has said in the above post, it shows separately as 2 Tabs, 2 Tabs, etc.

You can view them in the History page, from where you can open which ever you want to open. Sometimes the “Start where you left off” may not work ig, I don’t use that feature…

@Mattches

Yes they are separated in the History menu as you described. I’m just curious why it opens that first window again. It seems like when I’m using “Start where I left off”, it should automatically remove the first item from that list. That way when I try to “reopen closed window”, it opens the next one on the list instead of opening the same one again.

Could the dev team look into this?

@afk37212,
I’m not really convinced there’s an issue here. It may be slightly unintuitive but I don’t think this is outside of the expected behavior. I am happy to bring this up to the team either way but I imagine that this reproduces in Chrome and other Chromium based browsers as well.
