Unable to play 2 or more videos simultaneous

Issue Description

Videos in brave are stuttering or loading indefinitely if I open 2 or more videos tabs in parallel.

I have tested this with a guest profile to ensure no extensions are broken.
I’ve tested this both in Chrome and Firefox and I am not able to reproduce this problem.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open a youtube window in 1 window
  2. Open a new window
  3. Open a youtube video in that will play in parallel in the new window.

Expected result:
Have both videos play at the same time

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave is up to date

Version 1.51.118 Chromium: 113.0.5672.126 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

This issue also appears to be when scrolling a page with the third mouse button (middle button press) and the page is loading.
When scrolling with the middle button, if the page is not loaded full (for example YouTube comments) it will go into an infinite scroll loop while the page is not loading and the video is not playing. I have to stop (with escape) the mouse button scrolling.

This issue does not appear in Chrome or Firefox.

@zauxst,
Thank you for reaching out.
Testing this on macOS and Windows 10, I’m not seeing any issues with having more than one YT video play at the same time. In fact, while it gave me a headache while testing :p, I was able to open 5 different videos all playing at once without any issue.

Can you elaborate a bit on the scrolling portion of this that you describe towards the end of the issue? Is this integral to producing the issue? If so, can you include it in the steps to reproduce so that I can follow your steps exactly and attempt to produce it on my end?

Thank you

Hey Mattches,

Thanks for taking a look over this extremely frustrating issue.

On my Mac I can’t reproduce this issue either, only on my Windows11.

The scrolling seems to be part of the issue and best I could describe it right now is that when a page is loading while scrolling with Mouse3, the second video stops.

As of testing right now (with a fresh PC boot) the video infinite buffering seems to be somehow a combination between some graphical load and internet load.

For example, if I have 2 videos, both being visible in the front view of any of my desktops, they will stop loading all together.

The same happens when I scroll down any text that has not yet been loaded in the browser, the video becomes unresponsive.

The weirdest part about it as I said. I cannot reproduce it in chrome/firefox, but I can reproduce it in brave using : incognito, new profile or guest profile.

Here is the console log from one of the tabs:

The moment I hit pause I get the above error (blocked by client) when I unpause one of the videos, the other magically starts working.

I don’t know if this information helps, what I’ve noticed now is that If I watch a stream (YouTube) + a show (pop-up-ed video) and pop-up chat. When I have to load a new episode (page reload event, not like at Netflix) the show tab will stop working until I close the YouTube pop-out chat and reopen it.

This is so unpredictable.

Can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in settings to see if this resolves the issue?

You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration

Hey @Mattches , thanks for replying. I disabled it and it seems to be working. Do you happen to know what is the cause of this? do I have a hardware problem?

You do not have a hardware problem — HWA is known to cause weird issues for users sometimes and is quite common. You should be able to use the browser as you do normally with HWA disabled and not notice any difference.
