The code is invalid

Description of the issue:
I’m trying to sync data from my laptop’s to my PC’s, but it’s not working.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  1. Access the sync management page: brave://settings/braveSync/setup
  2. Click to “View Sync Code”
  3. Get the “Code” (13 words)
  4. On the PC, access the sync management page same as step 1
  5. Click “I have a Sync Code”, paste code from step 3
  6. Click “Confirm”, I’m saw a popup like “Confirm”, and click “OK”
  7. Done and see error: “This code is invalid”

Reproduces how often:
I’m tried did that about a month ago, and today I’m tried again, this is same error
Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Version 1.52.129 Chromium: 114.0.5735.198(64 bit)
Type of devices currently running on the Sync chain in question:

  • My laptop: Windows 11
  • My PC: Windows 11, ubuntu 20
    Additional Information:
  • I’m tried using QR Code on my laptop, but when click it, my browser is crash and force exit.
  • I’m used Brave Browser about 3 ago, many data saved into browser on my laptop.

The sync code is 25 words, and the last word changes daily (https://alexeybarabash.github.io/25th-brave-sync-word/)

So if you say 13 words, that explains why it doesn’t work.

Can I update or refresh it?

@Ily1606 I have no idea where you’re looking or anything. There’s no way that sync code should be just 13 words. Brave Wallet is 12 words and Brave Sync is 25.

You can just simply install Brave again from https://brave.com/download/ without uninstalling and it can fix a browser if there’s a corrupt file or something.

Are both devices using this version of Brave?

I don’t know how the sync code is 13 words,
but it’s count 13 words, and I’m count, it’s 13 words.

I think the code was wrong.

I have just reinstall, but issue not resolve.

Yes, and latest version.

Yeah, not sure what’s going on with that. If you exit/delete the sync chain and create a new one, does it create with 13 again or does it create with 25?

Is your mean click to “Leave Sync Chain”?
I don’t know, but will the data be deleted?
And it will generate new Sync Code?

Correct

No. Everything in the browser on that device will remain

Since you’d be leaving the chain and creating a new one, it should definitely generate a new sync code. Again, question is whether it shows the proper 25 word one or if it does 13 again.

If only shows 13, will have you double check with new profile. But also will tag support over to try to help

Thank you so much!

Hello all,

i had a same problem but i found a solution.

if you count the number of words manually, you can see that it is 25 but there is a some bugs which occurs if you do copy+paste the code.

Solution is that please delete last 4 words and write by keyboard manually then you will see the system counts number and then click ok.

i solved my issue with this method.

You are spot on, I dont know why but my sync code has two non-breaking space rather than normal spaces.

once you change it to regular " " blank spaces, the sync code works
