Dear Brave Team,
As a long-time user and supporter of Brave, I deeply value the browser’s commitment to privacy and user empowerment. Concerns have arisen regarding Microsoft Windows 11’s new Recall feature, which continuously takes automatic screenshots of user activity. This functionality introduces significant risks to user privacy, especially when sensitive information may be displayed in browser windows.
Signal has already taken action in response by temporarily enabling DRM protections on their application interface to prevent their content from being captured via Recall. Their blog post (https://signal.org/blog/signal-doesnt-recall/) outlines their privacy-first reasoning and proactive approach.
In light of this, I strongly recommend Brave explore similar or more advanced techniques to mitigate data leakage through Recall. This could include:
- Enabling optional DRM protections in private or shielded windows
- Using hardware-accelerated overlays to block screen capture in sensitive contexts
- Detecting the presence of Recall and alerting users
- Providing toggles or warnings for sites handling confidential data
Such measures would further position Brave as a leader in user privacy and set a standard for how browsers can defend against OS-level surveillance.
Thank you for continuing to put users first.
