Problem Statement
Brave Mobile users often organize tabs into multiple distinct “windows.” However, opening external links or re-launching the app results in new tabs appearing inconsistently – often not in the most recent window or user’s intended context. This unpredictability disrupts workflow, scatters tabs, and forces constant manual reorganization and window switching.
Proposed Solution:
Allow users to designate one open window as the “preferred” or “default” window.
- Ability to Set: A simple option within the multi-window management interface to mark one window as preferred. Only one can be active at a time.
- External Links: All external links (from other apps) will consistently open as new tabs within this preferred window.
- App Launch: When Brave Mobile is launched from a closed state, it will automatically open to display the preferred window.
Benefits:
- Predictability: New tabs always open where expected.
- Organization: Maintains clean, distinct browsing environments.
- Efficiency: Eliminates manual tab moving and window switching, saving time.
- Control: Empowers users to tailor Brave’s default behavior to their workflow.
Use Case:
Sam, a student, uses separate Brave windows for university research and personal browsing. Currently, an academic link from a messaging app might open in Sam’s personal window, forcing a manual tab move. With a preferred “research” window, all such links would automatically and consistently open in the correct study context, and Brave would always launch into this window, streamlining Sam’s focus and productivity.
