I have been facing a serious issue for quite some time with Brave’s updates. Every time a new version is released, I have to update it manually because I get the following error:
“An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 4: 0X80070005 – system level).”
Currently, I am using version 1.76.74, but I am unable to update to the latest version 1.76.82 due to this error.
Could you please assist me in resolving this issue so that I can receive updates automatically in the future?
@Poshnjari can you try downloading the installer from our website (https://brave.com/download) and just running it (don’t uninstall) to apply the latest update?
Thank you for the response, I always do this, but I got frustrated having to repeat it every time. Where does the problem lie that it won’t update? I don’t have this issue with other browsers.
If it keeps happening after that then the issue has to do with permissions on the system. Do you have any anti-virus software running on your machine at this time?
Yes, I have eset internet security, but I don’t think this is the issue since it doesn’t give me any notifications. And I don’t want to disable it and reinstall Brave, as I don’t want to lose any data.
