Please add split view support

With foldables becoming more popular, braves lack of support for split screen view is a big detractor from mobile android foldable experience. Without split screen the browser choice defeats the purpose of buying a foldable. Every other browser from chrome to vivaldi supports this. Hoping this can be added for Samsung fold 6 and oppo find n5 etc devices.

Hello! This is available now, but behind a flag. Visit brave://flags and enable #brave-split-view

Is this only available in specific versions? That option is not in my Brave. I’m running 1.76.81, and after upgrading to Android 15, I no longer have the option to use split view.

@psycardis he made a mistake in his reply. This is only available for desktop versions and not for mobile

So, should I open another feature request for the Android version to allow multi-window mode?

@psycardis no. We have this open and you can vote on it. Just don’t mind the reply saying it was available.

There are open Github and it’s been assigned P4 at least. P4 means they are planning on it but don’t have an estimated timeframe. It’s one of the lower priority tasks but eventually will be squeezed in.

There are a lot of things P1-P3 that will take priority for attention. Unless things just happen to align, I’d wager we won’t see it land any time soon. But at least it’s on the roadmap and eventually should get added. Wish I had some better information or timeframe, but at least wanted to highlight it’s there and they are saying it’s planned work.

That is not the same feature, we’re requesting to use the multi-window mode built-in to Android 15. This would allow Brave to run side-by-side with another app. According to the developer page I linked, this functionality is enabled by default, so for some reason the developers have manually disabled it.

It appears the relevant Github Issue is this one: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/43482

@psycardis ah,. phrasing may be a bit off. So way I was reading is that had been looking for something like desktop Split View, which had just been added to desktop recently. You can see a screenshot of that below.

But now I understand this isn’t at all what was intended and yours is multiple window you can have side by side. As far as I had seen before, the functionality like this was an OS level permission. It was more for side by side of different apps more than it was two windows of the same. But I haven’t had Android for a few years. Do you know if this functionality exists on Chrome?

Anyway, at least pinged in some from Brave and you made your own comment. Not sure if @Mattches or @Evan123 might be able to give any ideas on this.

The issue here must be specific to OxygenOS15 because I see the split view option available to me by default on my Galaxy device:

Just to confirm, you see the split view option for all other apps and browsers on your Android devices but not Brave?

Let me tag in @Solamthus for what it’s worth since they are OP. Not sure if they’ve been getting notifications but hoping by tagging they will so aware of what’s being said and if they can provide any additional feedback

That is correct, this is the first app I’ve found that does not show the split view option, and as mentioned in the Github Issue, the Beta version (1.77.85) DOES show the split-view option, so perhaps a fix is coming?

@psycardis Yeah I would imagine that when current Beta gets pushed down the pipe into stable the option will become available.

I also do not get the Split View options shown to me under Recent Apps (Samsung A24), but I can see the split view option by long-swiping right to left on the app screen.
