I’ve been using Brave for years and wanted to report an issue that has been bothering me for a long time especially in the past two months. No matter which website I visit, whether I save my login credentials or not, my account logs out after one day. This only happens in Brave.
I initially thought it might be a Chromium-related issue, so I installed Chrome to test it. However, after nearly a week, I haven’t experienced any logouts in Chrome. For example, I logged into Steam on both browsers on the 10th of this month. As of today, my account is still logged in on Chrome, but I’ve had to log in six times on Brave. Having to re-enter my credentials every day is frustrating, especially since I use many different websites, and constantly logging in and out is quite tedious.
I’ve seen similar reports in other threads, with suggestions to check: Sign in automatically in brave://password-manager/settings Autofill data clearance on exit in brave://settings/clearBrowserData
However, these settings seem fine on my end, yet the issue persists. This is really frustrating, and I hope it gets fixed soon. I love using Brave, but this problem is making things difficult.
If anyone has a solution or if the Brave team could look into this, it would be greatly appreciated!
Hello - Thanks for reaching out. Do you experience this issue in Brave Beta?
Brave Shields may be interfering with the site login. Please check your cookie options under the Shields icon in your toolbar for Steam.
Forget me when I close this site may be toggled on**.** You can check under the Shields icon for each site.
The Clear MemoryOn Exit option may be enabled under Clear Browsing Data (brave://settings/clearBrowserData)
Third-party extensions can sometimes cause login troubles. Please check to see if you have any installed. Trying in Beta may help confirm this.
Check to see if you are are opening in private/incognito window or launching it by default, which would automatically clear all cookies and all when you exit the browsing session.
No, this is not related to any of those things. I have checked everything, and I am not using the Beta version. I’ve been dealing with this issue for the past month, and as I mentioned, it only happens in Brave.
I can confirm that this started happening to me a day ago, using Brave Beta on Ubuntu. None of the troubleshooting suggestions offered effects this behavior. Hoping it resolves with an upcoming update.
@Laesta been a while since seen anything from you. Just wanted to ask, are you still having this problem?
They had been investigating at https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/44789 and at least discovered a cause for Linux on Nightly which should be resolved, but still trying to look into people experiencing on Windows.
If you are having problems, am hoping you can give more details on your OS and all. More particularly:
Can you please provide more details? The following would be helpful (I’ve added mine):
@Laesta okay. I know @shivan and others were looking into it and this was one bit of information they had been looking at.
Also to confirm:
Do you have any extensions installed?
Does this happen on a new browser profile and test on it “as is” without adding any extensions or anything? (That’s hamburger menu → more tools → add new profile)
Have you also double checked to make sure you don’t have anything like Avast Cleaner, CCleaner, or any such program that is meant to increase performance, clean junk files, or whatever?
Oh, and last one…does this happen to all websites at once or just seems to be more for specific sites such as Steam and Google?
-First of all, there are a lot of add-ons on my own device, but the problem has nothing to do with that. Every day, I receive a lot of devices and I install them and install Brave on them, so we experience this problem even on devices that have nothing in stock.
I have actually answered the second question in the first question. It doesn’t matter, it’s exactly the same.
No, I don’t use anything like Avast CCleaner or even an antivirus on my devices because it is completely unnecessary. I removed it on my devices with programs like Defender Control etc. but the end result is not related to this. We are experiencing the same problem on the devices I have installed from scratch.
I experience this on almost all the sites I use. I don’t think there has been a site where it hasn’t been logged out yet. If I don’t enter that site for 1 or 2 days, it logs me out by itself, but normal chrome doesn’t do this. Since the day I opened the thread, the one that is still open in chrome is still there. Entering it once is enough to keep my session open for a week or more, but with brave, if I don’t enter for 2, 3, 4 days, unfortunately it closes itself.
Finally, if you think this is from the installed Windows image, don’t think about that either because I am installing it completely with Microsoft’s own installation.
