Noticed a drop in Brave ads this month

Hello there,

I have been using Brave Rewards for the past 3 months and have received BAT on time. However, this month I’ve noticed a sudden decrease in the number of news ads. In the previous month, I used to get around 20 news ads per day when I opened the browser at regular intervals. But starting this month, I’m receiving at most 2 news ads per day.

Is this decrease happening because I’ve already received a higher number of ads in the previous months? Could that be the reason I’m now getting fewer ads? Or have I been blacklisted or possibly triggered an algorithm that reduced the ad frequency?

@Ghost.rider I tackle a lot of questions and information in Saoiray's Discussion about Rewards payout amounts if you care to look through it.

There are a lot of moving factors in terms of what we get and how many ads. It’s likely you just happened to hit the view limits and there aren’t enough new ad campaigns in your region. Or that the newer ad campaigns aren’t doing it for IC (Inline Content) but instead paid for SI (Sponsored Images = New Tab Page/NTP ads), or PN (Push Notification) instead.

Also if you haven’t noticed, Brave also is starting new thing of Offer Wall. They don’t have much of anything of use there right now, but eventually we’re supposed to see ways of earning BAT on that as well. Example of what it looks like for now is below:

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation!

I do understand the factors you mentioned, but I’ve noticed something odd. My cousin, who also uses Brave Rewards, hasn’t experienced this kind of drop in ad count — especially with news ads — this month. I’ve been active across other formats too, like Sponsored Images and Push Notifications, as you mentioned, but I still don’t see why there’s such a sudden decrease for me. Compared to last month, I’m barely getting anything.

Just trying to understand if something specific might be affecting my account.

Are they using the same exact OS type? And they have been using exactly as long as you?

For example, below:

This ad campaign has 5 different types of ads. The campaign started April 1 and ends April 15. It says view limits are 2 / — / — / 60. This means you could see up to 2 per day for a maximum of 60 times. It is only available on Windows and Mac. So if you were on Linux or any mobile, you couldn’t see that ad.

Also that’s a PN, so push notification only.

Or we have this one below:

It is IC (Inline Content) which means it would show on Brave News. It has view limit of
6 / — / — / 60. This means I could see ads up to 6 times a day from that campaign, but for a maximum of 60 times. This means in as little as 10 days I could hit the view limit. Once that’s done, I can’t see or earn from that ad campaign again.

Then if I look, that campaign started on July 3, 2024. So chances are I would have seen those all already and not been able to see or earn from it for a while. But your cousin if newer might not have hit the limit.

Other thing I’ll mention. Luke Mulks has told us on the Community Call a few times that the ads we see are also partly determined in the types of websites we visit. Such as if I’m going to a lot of web3 sites or banks, I’ll be more likely to show those types of ads. So how active we are on our device and the types of websites we visit will have a part as well.

I just don’t generally speak on it much because I’m not sure that it’s accurate. I mean, it is true that keeping active for basic use is important. But if we are doing “too much” where it seems we’re using automation or trying to abuse things, we’ll get ourselves screwed too. I think this aspect isn’t as vital as everything else, but I guess it does play at least a small part. So if you’re not doing as much on your devices as your cousin might be, that could have a small influence.

Ohh.. Thank you for your prompt response and for staying active in the community.

I see. Currently, I’m using an Android device and have had Brave Rewards enabled for about three months. Since I use Brave quite frequently, it’s possible that I may have hit the ad view limit last month. I received over 900 ads in the previous month, so that could explain the sudden decrease in ad frequency this month.
