Not always clearing cache on ipad pro unless hard reboot

Dear Bravesters–

Thank you for your product, which I really like despite this, which is a bug report I didn’t know where to enter because I couldn’t figure out your categories.

Brave 17.3
ipad pro 12 (4th gen) IOS 18.2 with Nord VPN

  • Before I shut down, I always clear cache all browsers (Duck Duck, Firefox, Safari, Brave). In Brave, all Clear Private Data flags are set on before the clear.

  • After I power up, also clear cache in all browsers [* 1]

  • Okay, so Brave seems clear, right? But sometimes I just don’t trust it, because the clear cache took too long. So I do a hard reboot and lo and behold I sometimes see a flash of the last Brave web page I was on–yesterday morn, it was the reddit page I was lurking on last night–and then I get the message that Brave closed unexpectedly.

Okay to the closed unexpectedly, but NOT okay to the idea that it still knew about that reddit page. That tells me its cache was never cleared. [* 2]

Thank you for any attention you can give this. For now, I will continue to hard-reboot to clear my cache, but I am wondering if I should not let Apple know, also, in case this is an oops on their side, as well…?

ASPIE TMI FOOTNOTES

(1) Because of sus experience with Brave and Firefox having data post-clear and me not knowing where in cycle it arose (e.g. whether retained in their cache or copied to some elsewhere I don’t know about and replaced from there to browser’s cache, if you get me. Sounds overly complicated, but I don’t know web coding or how hackers do their do).

(2) It’s like google telling us our search history is totally wiped but then you search on each letter of the alphabet and what I get for a and b is tots different than what you get and somehow my results show a lot about me and my past searches–right?

How to exit / quit apps in Apple iOS

The hard restart, causes exit / quit for apps. (And, performs additional house cleaning.)

Thank you. These are non-pertinent to my bug request. I was Assoc. Dir. of USC Software (USC/Los Angeles) in my old-fart IT career and helpdesk staff reported to me. Please reread what I reported. I think you have a problem you’re unaware of. Thanks.

issue is not that Brave will not respond or seems frozen.

Some users of iOS devices are unaware that closing an app window does not exit / quit the app.

I feel you are still not focussing on the issue I reported. Should cache not be cleared when I:

  • have all flags set on under Settings > Shields & Privacy > Clear Private Data
  • Select “Clear Data Now”

and: Do non IOS users have to close the Brave browser to get these actions to “take” and actually clear the Brave cache?

I would appreciate an answer to these questions.

If it is normal Brave behaviour in IOS to NOT clear cache under these conditions until closing out the browser, okay then. If you want to call it a feature versus a bug, this is your right, and I still like Brave and will keep doing the hard reboots. I do believe it should be clearly documented for your IOS users. Thank you!

(I also believe I have seen the same behavior after closing Brave and doing a normal shut-down. It would be loverly if I could reproduce the conditions under which either occurs–with and without closing Brave–but I only discovered it does because of the occasional quick flashes of prior pages.)
