No system notifications in Windows for Outlook mails and calendar event reminders

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Install current Nightly version of Brave on Windows 10.
  2. Open mail / calendar account on outlook.office.com.
  3. Receive an email / have an upcoming calendar event with notification.

Expected result:

Get a system notification in Windows for an email and/or a calendar event, as this is true with notifications on other sites (e.g., Brave’s Push Notification Test, https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058972091-Push-Notification-Test). At least it seems that there is a sound on arrival of new message or reminder of a calendar event, but no “pop up” system notification toast…

Brave Version:

Version 1.53.36 Chromium: 113.0.5672.92 (Official Build) nightly (64-bit)

Additional Information:

On other browsers (e.g., Firefox, …) the system notifications in Windows work. Hence, it is not related to the operating system, but indeed related to the browser - from my point of view.

Hi Patrick,

It seems that Microsoft uses Google Push Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging). You can also test it on this site: https://cleverpush.com/en/test-notifications/

Or when you look in the browser console you will find a line like “owa.414231.m.js:1 Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: Registration failed - push service error” originating from a microsoft domain, e.g. “res-h3.public.cdn.office.net”.

Solution: Go to “brave://settings/privacy” and check the first switch “Use Google Services for Push Messaging” and restart the browser.
