No audio on select news site videos

Description of the issue:
CNN and Yahoo News site videos do not play audio. They did a couple weeks ago. Youtube videos have audio with no problem. I’ve tried in private browsing mode no change. I’ve cleared my history/cache and even reinstalled brave completely, no change.

Open brave, go to CNN or Yahoo news and watch any video, no audio. Fox news videos do have audio…

I can’t seem to reproduce this. Both CNN and Yahoo news have audio when streaming video content. Can you share a link to a specific video in which you see this occur?

The no audio occurs on all videos on both sites. Here is a link to one I just tested.

This problem no audio problem began maybe 2 weeks+/- ago and only on my computer at work. Really strange it’s only those sites (that I know of) having the problem.
Home computer using Brave has audio on CNN and Yahoo news videos, no problems.

If you click the “lock” icon in the address bar while on (for example) and go to Site settings, do you see the Sound option set to Block for some reason?

I clicked on the lock/site settings. Sound was set to Automatic. I set it to Allow and have closed and reopened the browser still no sound.


Hmmmm – if you turn Shields down entirely does it change anything?

Unfortunately shield off doesn’t fix it. That was one of the first things I tried. (Just tried it again, still nothing)


Tested Chrome and Firefox and the audio is working on the same videos.


I don’t know what’s happened but audio is working again on those sites. I’ve been using my work computer as usual but a windows update restarted the machine yesterday and now the browser’s video audio on those sites are working again.
