Most recent update locking up

@Mattches @Saoiray, So i just got through disabling a lot of extensions on the nightly build, killed the process in task manager, and started it back up. It seems to be doing okay. I’m going to use nightly for a while and if it is good, then I’ll start up the release branch and mirror my changes.

Here are the extensions and changes I made.

Extensions I Still Have Enabled

  • Cluster - Window & Tab Manager 2.2.6
  • OneTab 1.86
  • Session Buddy 4.0.4
  • Tabli 2.1.2
  • Tabs Outliner 1.4.151
  • Toby: Tab Management Tool 1.2.5

Extensions That I just Disabled:

  • Clutter Free - Prevent Duplicate Tabs 9.3.0
  • Grammarly: AI Writing and Grammar 14.1193.0
  • Reload All Tabs 5.0.0
  • Session Manager 3.5.0
  • Tab Manager by Workona 3.1.32
  • Tab Manager Plus for Chrome 5.2.0
  • Tab Organizer 4.3.1
  • TooManyTabs For Chrome 2.4.1

Okay @Mattches @Saoiray, I think i’ve found the culprit.

I started activating them one-at-a-time and the instant I enabled “Clutter Free - Prevent duplicate tabs 9.3.0” the browser locked up almost immediately.

it was also active in private mode which explains why it was causing the problems while in private mode.

It also explains why when I had nightly it ONLY started causing problems AFTER I started syncing everything.

Here is the link to the extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/clutter-free-prevent-dupl/iipjdmnoigaobkamfhnojmglcdbnfaaf?hl=en&pli=1

Interestingly enough their last update was 8/12/2024 and that is about when the issues started. And, it looks like the top reviews are all because “recently I noticed high CPU usage… after disabling this extension the CPU usage returned to normal.”

I’ll go add my $.02 to their reviews and post them a notice on my experiences, but it looks like maybe they moved to manifest v3 … so it seems like there is a bug there somewhere. It’s a great extension, so hopefully they get it fixed soon!

Thanks for all your attention guys!, I’m sorry that it took me this long to figure out the issue. I’m glad it’s not an issue with Brave!

I just switched over to the “release” branch and it is functioning properly!

I have also reached out to the people behind the extension and left them my findings as well.
