Metamask (Crypto Wallets version) no longer functional

Description of the issue:

The old Crypto Wallets is no longer functional for me. No matter what I have selected for my wallet (Crypto Wallets (deprecated), Brave (prefer extensions), etc.) the Crypto Wallet version will not work when activated. I click on the puzzle piece icon and the window pops up and it’s just blank and stays blank. The same thing happens if I open it in the browser tab. I am not able to enter a password or do anything.

I have reinstalled Brave browser and reset/recovered my wallet and that did not fix the issue. I flicked on developer mode and have some console errors when using Crypto Wallets:

Error: Corruption: block checksum mismatch
at r.checkForError (background.js:1)
at background.js:1

and…

  1. Audit usage of navigator.userAgent, navigator.appVersion, and navigator.platform

  2. A page or script is accessing at least one of navigator.userAgent , navigator.appVersion , and navigator.platform . Starting in Chrome 101, the amount of information available in the User Agent string will be reduced.

To fix this issue, replace the usage of navigator.userAgent , navigator.appVersion , and navigator.platform with feature detection, progressive enhancement, or migrate to navigator.userAgentData .

Note that for performance reasons, only the first access to one of the properties is shown.

How can this issue be reproduced?

For me, this issue happens just by clicking the Crypto Wallets ‘puzzle piece’ icon. Not sure how you could reproduce it.

V1.32.113
Windows 7 64-bit
Crypto Wallets extension fully updated

Do you have your original seed phrase?
If so please try to “Create a new profile” from the hamburger menu and then restore it there.

If it is a 12 word seed phrase then you can also restore to MetaMask and see if there’s an error there or not too.

Thanks for your reply.

Created the new profile but Crypto Wallets is no longer a wallet option. I can only use the Brave Wallet.

In that new profile you can turn on that functionality by going here
brave://flags/#ethereum_remote-client_new-installs

After that the option will appear in your default wallets list.

Thank you! The new profile made Crypto Wallets functional again once I turned on the functionality.

I truly recommend not using Metamask on Brave, I just got hacked I lost my funds because I load my private key on that extension

If you restored your account using the secret phrase, check the wallet address to see if it’s the same one. If it generated a new wallet address, then your funds are still accessible from the old one.

If you were legitimately compromised, check your PC thoroughly for malware/keyloggers. A malicious website may also be the culprit.

Fix this. Or let us remove the update. Stop messing with our wallet functions. Why do you need to control our wallet options? Dying for our data that bad? Undo this crap update

fully agreed i think there is no use of brave wallet until it allows user to drain collected rewards
and brave wallet is copy of metamask just with different name nothing different except metamask is extension and brave wallet is built in

Brave provides a wallet and built in window.ethereum object, but it does not mess with wallet functions. It gives user choice. You are free to use MetaMask and it will work the same as in any other browser.
