MacOS Computer Crashes When Trying to Send Crypto with Brave Wallet

Description of the issue:

Using new brave wallet on Mac. When I click the send button it loads a new tab to send crypto. New tab doesn’t show many of my coins (for example no USDC on any chain and no ETH on mainnet), but it does show some coins like aETH on arbitrum. Then entire computer crashes. This has happened many times.

Note also that interacting with smart contracts does work, but uses A LOT of CPU and makes my whole computer lag. This did not used to happen with previous versions of the brave wallet.

How can this issue be reproduced?
See above description.

Brave Version (check About Brave): 1.50.121

Additional Information:
MacOS Ventura 13.2.1

@Scarce9693 Two things:

This is an older version. There have been a couple updates since the one you’ve listed. Current version is 1.51.110. Could you try updating and see if it resolves the issue for you?

Oh, so whole computer and not just the browser? I mean, this is highly unusual if that’s the case and might have to ask a lot of details. If it’s just the browser crashing, would ask you to go to brave://crashes, make sure it’s uploaded, and then share Crash Report ID.

However, if it’s entire computer, then would ask you to (not cumulatively, but just one step at a time and then test):

  • Check your drivers and make sure they are all up-to-date

  • Disable or remove all extensions.

  • Check firewalls, internet security, or antivirus, etc and see if disabling those helps.

If none of the above makes a difference and your device is still crashing, I’ll ask you to share crash logs for your Mac. If you need to know how to do that, you can check https://support.apple.com/guide/console/reports-cnsl664be99a/mac

Be advised that in order to upload the crash log here, you’ll need to change the format from .ips to .txt.

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt response! I updated Brave. This time on the Send screen it didn’t crash my computer or the browser. Maybe that solved that particular issue.

However, the lesser but still very important issue of not being able to send USDC, ETH on mainnet, or many other tokens remains. Accompanied by very poor performance (CPU usage is 100% and my whole computer freezes up for moments when the send screen it loading).

When I click on my wallet extension in the upper right hand corner of Brave and I click “View Account Assets” it shows me that I have USDC in my wallet. However, when I click on send, wait for the page to load, it shows a few other assets but no USDC. When I search for USDC, it does not show anything.

Is there any other way to send assets without using that screen?

Can you please confirm if you are able to see a USDC balance on the Portfolio page (brave://wallet/crypto/portfolio)?

In order to investigate the CPU issue, can you please do the following?

  1. Open Activity Monitor > CPU

What’s the % CPU usage of Brave vs other processes? Does it stay at 100% all the time, or does it momentarily spike only for a few seconds?

  2. Open Brave’s in-built Task Manager by navigating to > More Tools > Task Manager.

The tasks to look at are “Browser” and “Tab: Send”, but also take note if there are other resource hungry tabs.
