Mac: "Close all Chrome windows" error message when importing bookmarks (but Chrome is not open)

Description of the issue:
“To finish importing, close all Chrome windows.” error message appears. I have also uninstalled Google Drive, removed all extensions. Am I missing something?

How can this issue be reproduced?
When trying to import bookmarks to Brave from Chrome.

  1. Open Brave
  2. Settings
  3. Import Bookmarks and Settings
  4. Choosing “Chrome” from the drop-down menu
  5. Import
  6. Error message appears

Expected result:
To be able to successfully import my bookmarks.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.8.96 Chromium: 81.0.4044.138 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Running on Mac OSX Mojave 10.14.2

First, open your task mana6 and make sure you’ve no Chrome process/es running in the background. Then try again.

Thank you––I just checked Activity Monitor. The only thing that is Chrome related is this thing called chrome_crashpad_handler. I quit and also force quit-ted it and it doesn’t seem to go away. Error message is still appearing. What can I do?

@Aa-ron @Mattches for additional assistance

Hi @Brav3H3art,
A workaround you could try - within Chrome go to chrome://bookmarks/
then click - export bookmarks

Then back in Brave you can try importing a bookmarks HTML file.
It should put the files in an imported folder, but you can move stuff around within the bookmarks manager.

This worked for me! Thank you, @Aa-ron and @eljuno. My Chrome has been crashing pretty much 30 seconds after it opens, so I had to do this super quickly.
