Lost all passwords after update

Description of the issue: Lost all passwords on browser update.

How can this issue be reproduced? Let the browser auto update, hang for 2 minutes, bluescreen your PC, then on reboot all your passwords are gone, as well as half your settings.

Expected result: The browser to update and not wipe out all my passwords and settings.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.52.119 Chromium: 114.0.5735.90 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information: I have found the “Login Data” file, which does seem to have all of my lost password info, just not sure how I can get brave to import this?

I only have a “Default” folder in "C:\Users*Username*\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data"

No “Profile 1” folder, the default name of my profile in settings is now “Person 1” after the update.

Whilst the update was happening I was also in the process of trying to explode a large file within autocad civ 3d, maybe it’s possible that because brave started updating during this process, it caused a crash(BSOD), not allowing brave to complete the update?

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to tag @Mattches and @steeven here. Since yours had some other difficulties included, I’m assuming wouldn’t belong into the unexplained data loss topic. Hopefully they’ll be able to better guide you into things a bit.

This does actually look like it could be related to the data loss issue other users are seeing. IT would be very helpful for us if you could share this report in the thread that @Saoiray listed above.

Good Morning Mattches, I am assuming this means none of you have a fix for the issue currently? With all due respect I have lost passwords from years old accounts that I am now having real difficulty recovering, This has caused me massive issues with clients, not being able to even arrange engineers for visits for 2 days. Maybe I should have had redundancy in place, hindsight is a wonderful thing. It seems this has been a recurring issue with brave for a while now from what I’ve seen online. Just let me know when it is fixed, I’ll return to firefox for the time being since I absolutely cannot risk this sort of hiccup again. Kind Regards, Will.
