Hi,
Recently I came across an issue with BRAVE Browser. After a system restart, I tried to open the BRAVE browser again and it would open and close immediately. When I was searching for solution in the community someone susgested that I rename the existing User Data Folder and then try opening the Browser. It solution worked but then I lost all the Tabs and History. Some of the tabs are important and were not bookmarked. Is there any way I can recover the TABS back by fixing the User Data Folder which I have renamed.
Any solution to recover would be more helpful.
Thank you

Raghu
@steeven @Mattches could you please help?
@avidrv7862,
Basically Brave is always looking for the folder called User Data
. So what happened is, once you renamed the User Data
folder, the browser launched and couldn’t find a folder with that name, so it generated a new one. Now when you launch the browser, its’ looking at the newly created folder.
To resolve this, you’ll need to go back to the User Data
directory, delete the newly generated User Data
folder, go to the one that you renamed and change the name back to User Data
(make sure the browser is closed for this whole process).
Then launch the browser again and everything should be back to the way it was.
Hi, I tried doing it. Once I do this, I am back with the same problem. The browser launches and closes immediately / Automatically. How do you fix this issue?

So this means that there is something in your User data
(something in cache, maybe an extension, etc) is causing the browser to crash. Can you check and see if you are able to launch a Private window in the browser rather than opening a normal one and see if that window stays open?
I am not able to open the Private window either. As soon as I click to open Brave in Incognito Mode, a white window of Brave appears and closes immediately.
@avidrv7862,
Thank you for testing. Next step is to try opening a new profile and then getting the Crash Report IDs if they’re available. Please try the following:
- In Windows, open the
Command prompt
- In the prompt, type the following:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe" --profile-directory="testprofile"
- This will launch Brave using a newly created profile (“testprofile”).
- If you go to
brave://crashes
, it should show any crashes from any profile contained in your User data
folder.
- Please copy/paste/send any crash report IDs with me here so we can take a closer look at the issue.
Thank you
