Latest upgrade (v1.65.114) in Fedora won't launch

Description of the issue:
Latest update does not work in Fedora.

How can this issue be reproduced?
image

  1. Upgrade to 1.65.114
  2. try to launch brave
  3. Does not open, but all the processes are running. May or may not require a force quit after right clicking icon and selecting quit. System reboot does not help.

Expected result:
It opens normally

Brave Version( check About Brave):
1.65.114

Additional Information:
“sudo dnf downgrade brave-browser” fixes the issue

I also have this issue. It appears to be Wayland related. Brave 1.65.114 works when using x11.

I’m using Wayland on Fedora (Gnome spin) and it’s working for me.

That’s interesting. I am experiencing the issue with 1.65.114 on multiple machines (Intel and AMD), each with the Fedora 39 Gnome spin. I also run Sway on these machines, and I have the issue there as well. If I use Gnome X-org, then Brave works.

The same is happening to me on Fedora 39 KDE spin.

Interesting @Mythical5th . Are you using Wayland in Brave also?

Default does not use Wayland, but Auto and Wayland do.

Thanks for the insight. I should have tried to launch 1.65.114 from the terminal to see if any errors were shown.
I’ll just wait until next version at this point.

That was on Auto for me, so it was using X11. I have a problem with choppy scrolling when certain sites are open in other windows, so I set it to Wayland to see if that helped, and then everything broke!

To get things back to normal in Wayland, I had to log into an X11 session and set the flag specifically to X11 (not auto). Once in Wayland I could set the flag back to Auto and everything remained usable.

For me, “Broke” meant that the profile selection screen, which is set to show at startup, would open but was blank. I ran a CLI command to open a specific profile; its window opened but was transparent.

Fortunately, I didn’t need to go to a backup, but I’m glad I take one every Friday.

Update: issue fixed with 1.65.123

Same issue on Fedora 39 (and 40). Once browser process loads, Gnome/Wayland becomes unstable and I have switch to tty. All started after upgrade to 1.65.114. Downgrading back to 1.64.122-1 resolves issue. No issues when running chromium 124.0.6367.60. Running ‘brave-browser --safe-mode’ does not resolve issue.
