Lastpass Extension failing to launch starting 2 days ago (Solved)

Description of the issue:
2 days ago Lastpass extension stopped working. Only pops up a white box. This was on an existing profile that has worked for years. Created a new profile and it still happens. Removed brave entirely, redownloaded and now no version works.

Oddly, on the original Brave browser, I had a work profile that worked fine. It was my personal profile that it messed up on and now no profile works.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Add Lastpass extension. Try to click on it. Get a small white box.

Tested on Chrome and Edge and they both work fine.
Tried Beta Brave and got the same thing.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Screenshot 2024-07-16 084328

Expected result:

Lastpass login box should pop up asking for login and master password.

Reproduces how often:

Every time

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Windows 11. v 1.67.123

Additional Information:

This just started. Not sure if there was an update or not during that time. Other extensions work. This has been working fine for a couple of years and just started.

UPDATE: Can confirm this was fixed in the 1.68.128 build.

I confirm. I have machines where Brave + LastPass work happily, but it is impossible to install the LastPass extension in a newly installed Brave. It means I will have to abandon Brave and go back to Chrome.

@AnthraX @mcouvill can you confirm whether you made sure that LastPass is updated? I’m asking as they recently changed to Manifest V3

I’m installing from here:

which does install v4.132.0:

but then, clicking on the LastPass button just brings a white square, as described above.

@AnthraX thanks for checking. I had just woke up and was checking things from my phone. I just transitioned over to my desktop and proceeded to install it. I’m able to see as @mcouvill shared earlier:

Whereas on Chrome it appears as:

Let me be sure to tag in @Mattches and I’m sure he’ll look into it and perhaps pass along to devs.

Btw, Mattches, I see topic also is created over at

Test on Nightly and Release, same issue.

I hope this will be fixed quickly. In my case, I also have issues with playing videos on YouTube – sometimes they just freeze, and I have to manually refresh the tab. The loading circle spins for about 30 seconds, and then an error appears in the YouTube player. Of course, these problems do not occur in Chrome

I’m currently using LastPass right now logged in without any issues. Seems to be working for me on Stable, Beta and Nightly. Uninstalled and reinstalled and everything is working properly on both Windows and macOS.

Will have to look into this. Can anyone here please ensure they’ve updated to the latest build (1.67.134) and confirm that LastPass is still not working after the update?

If the extension remains broken for you after update, can you please tell me what OS you’re using?

Confirmed same issue as above. May leave LastPass forever because they do not support Brave.

@Mattches as mentioned earlier, I tested on my Windows 11. To show as screenshot:

You’ll notice the white little square on extension when I tried to open LastPass

Brave 1.67.134 Chromium: 126.0.6478.186 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision e27c9744a0ed98bfa60e287af7e5eaffde15bd57
OS Windows 11 Version 23H2 (Build 22631.3880)

Same thing is happening on Nightly:

Brave 1.69.115 Chromium: 127.0.6533.43 (Official Build) nightly (64-bit)
Revision 0f3c95cf9cac0acfd6d49bd72bb2ed548901a082
OS Windows 11 Version 23H2 (Build 22631.3880)

But as others have said, it seems to work perfectly on Chrome:

Google Chrome 126.0.6478.183 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Stable Installs & Version Pins)
Revision 2e81dea53f5ecdc1c057e4c70ecd66151987296a-refs/branch-heads/6478@{#1777}
OS Windows 11 Version 23H2 (Build 22631.3880)

Also should say I tried to have it run in Private, just in case…but no change.

And just in case it shows anything…I tried to inspect the element for where we have just that little white box. What it does is show as below:

And it shows no errors or anything

Confirm, they are both on latest versions.

That’s what I’m getting as well. Fine on. chrome and not on brave. works on edge as well.

–Mike

I’m getting the exact same thing as Saoiray. Same error messages as well. Latest Lastpass and latest Brave (and tried Beta as well as Nightly). Existing Profile is still working but any new ones won’t work).

Thank you both. I’m wondering if the issue is specific to Win 11. Will reply back here soon when I have more information.

It looks like this was actually already reported — team is looking into this presently:

Hopefully Brave can do something. Lastpass is critical for our business and it will be much easier for us to switch back to chrome than it would be to get everyone to switch from Lastpass. Brave+Lastpass was our standard.

Just wanted to add that I only have this problem on my initial (profile 1) profile. The other two behave normally. Same behavior on 2 different MBPs (M1 & M3)

I can confirm it’s not isolated to just W11. I’m on Brave Browser and getting the identical issue with Last Pass. And I’m on Linux Mint.

I’m in a similar boat. Though it won’t be too too much of a headache for me. I’m going to switch over to Bitwarden since it’s open source. Apparently you can export you lastpass to a CSV file and then import that csv into Bitwarden. Apparently if you choose Proton as well, they have a way to port over as well.

But I get it. The question is to ditch Brave or ditch Lastpass. It’d be easier for me to ditch Brave too, but I honestly can’t stand having to leave Brave out of LastPass being a jerk. So, I’m just going to port to BitWarden. Frustrating, but whatever.

If it were just me I’d do it too, but we went through a 3 month transition to Lastpass from 1Password because the company hated the Vaults layout and sometimes confusing UI of 1Pass. If I go back less than a month later and have them switch again I’ll lose my job as they hated the transition. Switching from Brave to Chrome or Edge would take less than a day.

I’d blame Lastpass but the fact is that Lastpass works on every chromium based browser BUT Brave so this seems like a Brave issue.
