Description of the issue:
I’m trying to download a NVIDIA Graphics Drive from it’s official site. But after the dawnload paused due to a break in connection, the download won’t resume now. “Keep Anyway” and “Cancle” buttons don’t work. Screenshot below.
@Aman_M it’s because the download link it http and won’t upgrade to https. I’m wanting to say the same happens on Chrome but I can’t remember. Also unsure if you were to turn off Safe Browsing at brave://settings/security if it makes a difference.
To quote how it was said back when it was implemented on Chrome:
Today we’re announcing that Chrome will gradually ensure that secure (HTTPS) pages only download secure files. In a series of steps outlined below, we’ll start blocking “mixed content downloads” (non-HTTPS downloads started on secure pages). This move follows a plan we announced last year to start blocking all insecure subresources on secure pages.
In Chrome 88 (released January 2021) and beyond, Chrome will block all mixed content downloads.
I know someone else experienced this last month and was able to download by disabling it as I mentioned.
TL:DR
Issue is you’re getting a HTTP download link while on HTTPS site. So it’s being blocked by default, even if you’re trying to authorize it. Turning off Safe Browsing can allow you to do it.
@Saoiray I get it that it’s blocked (the link has to be right-clicked and saved-as to get download prompt) but once I choose to “Keep” it, suddenly wifi disconnection causes the “Keep Anyway” button on brave://downloads/ to not work, doesn’t make sense.
Also, I just tested, disabling “Upgrade to HTTPS” and “Safe Browsing” makes no difference to me anywhere in all of this.
@Aman_M,
Thank you for reporting this. Will be forwarding this to the team. I am curious though — if you go to re-download the file from the site, the download (or the “new” download) will work, correct?
@Mattches If the download continues uninterrupted without any disconnection then yes, file is saved. This issue just appears when the connection breaks in-between. Then Keep anyway and Cancel buttons don’t work on resuming the download.
I can manually disconnect wifi while dowloading to reproduce this issue.
Yeah I see similar behavior — the Resume option does not actually resume the download. I was able to click Cancel however, and then Retry to download the file.
Even Cancel didn’t work for me. The x had worked though. And retry was successful. But it should be resumable, could save some time and bandwidth. My connection was lost more than halfway through.
@Mattches Another way to reproduce is, instead of disconnecting wifi, to ignore the download prompt at the bottom and try to Keep anyway from brave://downloads/. This is in a new profile-
