Issue with TTV logins and BetterTTV extension

Let me start by saying I dont think this is a “Brave issue” per say. I am just looking for possible ways around the issue which I will get to right now.

Description of the issue:
Fire up the Brave browser, no history stored, cleared cookies, all that good stuff is empty. Going to twitch.tv and logging into the website with the extension BetterTTV. Configure the BetterTTV settings for the extension. Watch a stream or two and then leave the website. Go back to the website and try to login, after entering user name and password, you will see the message that your browser is not compatible with the website. Clear the history, cookies, etc and login to the website and everything will work as expected this time. Except, now you have to reconfigure all the settings for BetterTTV. This has been happening everytime now. It doesnt take long to configure the settings but its really really annoying. Is there a way to possibly save the settings for the extension and not have to redo them everytime because of having to clear the history just to login to the website. Or better yet, what is causing this popup message to be displayed? If it involves turning off shields, thats not a solution (in my opinion).

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Nearly up to date! Relaunch Brave to finish updating.
Brave 1.79.126 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 137.0.7151.119

Dont want to reboot the browser, as I will have to configure the settings once again and I just had to redo them.

Actually, some users appear to have the same issue as you, but never have mentioned using an extension called BetterTTV (had to look it up, I don’t use Twitch). Have you verified its the extension itself causing the problem? (Tried viewing Twitch, and coming back without installing BetterTTV, etc)

Based on how it works, it may be the trigger for this as you rightfully suspected, it might not entirely be a Brave issue, but rather a BetterTTV/Twitch issue. Basically if you backed up the extensions settings, it might only re-trigger Twitch to push the error and therefore never have a true solution unfortunately.

(Honestly, I wonder if Twitch is intentionally throwing this error, like how Google is using fake errors on YouTube with those with adblockers now.)

With that said though, if you wish to try and locate it, usually extensions put their settings in the following locations (for Brave that is):
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings<extension-id>
or
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Extensions<extension-id>\

(I’m assuming you’re on Windows since you didn’t specify an OS. If you aren’t, please update your post with an OS and I’ll give you updated locations.)

Sorry for the delayed response. I dont particularly believe that it is the extension that is causing the login problems. I suspect that it is more an issue with twitch for the login issue. I believe that the same issue would still happen with or without the extension for the login. As for verifying that, no I have not tested that theory. My main reason for the post was if there is any possible way to preserve extension settings I guess you could say, while clearing the cookies. I am pretty positie that the issue is with the cookies when trying to login to the website after already loggin into the website. When the cookies are clear, there is no issue with the login, I clear my cookies often but that brings about the issue with the extension and having to configure that everytime, it doesnt take long but since twitch has been saying the browser is not supported for the last little while its becoming more of a nuisance but with uBlock, the settings are saved, regardless of clearing the browsing data. I think its safe to say that they save data in different ways and also why I was saying at heart this is not really a brave browser issue but if anyone has any slick ways of fixing something like this that would be awesome.

I have looked around in the extensions folder. That might be one way of doing it but as i just mentioned I believe the data from the extension is being saved through a cookie file so making a copy of the extensions folder itself wont make much of a difference. I guess the extension can also be used on YouTube but Ive never personally used it there. I use Linux and Windows. Have had the issue on both.

Thanks for the response

You ask for help, but think you know the issue. You’re on your own then.

You don’t think the extension is causing issues, yet admit it saves via cookies, and not through where I mentioned. Take the hint, or not. Again you’re on your own, good luck.

I am truly sorry that you have taken offense to my response to your comment. I apologize for troubleshooting and providing my hypotheses while dealing with this minor inconvenience. Your hint was quite the gold nugget. Thanks you so much I did not mean to upset you when I said I was aware of the extensions directory. It seems that this is stressing you out and I would like to politely remind you that although appreciated your help on here is on a voluntary basis and your under no obligation to reply to any post. Might be a good idea to take a break if your going to raise your blood pressure. Maybe take a night off from the community form, collect yourself, take it easy. This is my minor inconvenience rest assured I’ll figure it out and it seems that your more worked up about it than I am. Its practically already solved if that makes you feel any better! And I have you to thank! Thank you for the hint! Seriously

Twitch has changed lots recently (last 3-4 weeks) due to the face to we tried to counter their ads. Not sure how this affect these extensions, but they may need to be updated.

@S7evin

You are OK. Using Internet browsers, requires more study, trial & error, testing, and considering the un-expected. The learning curve varies for each of us. Hang in there.

Long time ago, I got into the habit of typing up each step of working thru a problem - takes a lot of time, but the notes come in handy. I created a folder named “manuals” and that now contains hundreds of text files and PDF files, plus some HTML “files” - so I can sometimes find answers when unable to go online.

The PDF files now include many for fixing dish washers, cars, computers. In general, a person may accumulate tools and toolboxes - and each set is a bit different. Keep at it.
