Is "Brave Safe Storage" active if Mac user doesn't use iCloud?

I see the “Brave Safe Storage” prompt every time I restart Brave. I’ve always bypassed it (i.e., denied access) because it appeared to require use of Mac OS’s keychain, an iCloud feature that I’ve never used. I’ve also never used iCloud.

Am I correct that without the use of iCloud, allowing access to the keychain is meaningless?

If so, is there a way to disable the prompt unless and until I choose to use iCloud?

Thanks

@mk7z keychain is a macOS feature, not an iCloud feature. You do not need to have iCloud enabled in order to use the keychain. I believe that if you want to store pw data in the browser, you’ll need to grant access to the OS keychain so that they can be en/decrypted.

@Mattches Thanks. Since I don’t store passwords in the browser, is there any other reason to allow Brave Safe Storage?

If not, can I disable the display of that prompt?

No you do not need to allow it if you don’t store passwords in the browser to my knowledge. If the prompt is coming from the system itself then you’d have to disable it via your macOS settings but I’m not sure where you would go to do that.

Can you share a screenshot of the exact prompt you’re seeing on your end?

I think you can try disabling the Offer to save passwords option in Brave (brave://password-manager/settings). You can also try deleting Brave the Brave Safe Storage entry from macOS Keychain access.

Outside of that, if those don’t work, I’d reach out to Apple about how to do this, as this is an OS function, not a browser function.

In Settings, “Offer to save passwords and passkeys” was already not active.
I deleted “Brave Safe Storage” in the Keychain Access app.
I think the latter will probably get rid of the prompt but if not I’ll contact Apple.
Thanks.

Just to confirm: it worked.
