I'm trying to move my data from one PC to another one. Now I can't run Brave

Hi there!

I want to move ALL my Brave data from one Linux Mint installation to a new one.

In order to do that I copied the ~/.config/BraveSoftware folder, installed Brave on the new PC and then pasted said folder in the same path. However, after doing so I try to run Brave but absolutely nothing happens.

Ideas? And please, don’t recommend Brave Sync  , I’m trying to accomplish this easily and locally without recurring to online storage and cloud stuff.

For future reference, I was recommended to run brave-browser-stable in the terminal.

Having done that, I got the following info:

“25622:25622:0124/170009.804382:ERROR:process_singleton_posix.cc(353)] The profile appears to be in use by another Brave process (2457) on another computer (old_pc_name). Brave has locked the profile so that it doesn’t get corrupted. If you are sure no other processes are using this profile, you can unlock the profile and relaunch Brave. [25622:25622:0124/170009.807661:ERROR:message_box_dialog.cc(146)] Unable to show a dialog outside the UI thread message loop: Brave - The profile appears to be in use by another Brave process (2457) on another computer (old_pc_name). Brave has locked the profile so that it doesn’t get corrupted. If you are sure no other processes are using this profile, you can unlock the profile and relaunch Brave.”

I was told that my profile was backed up when I had Brave running, so Brave thinks it’s stopping a second instance of Brave from running.

All I had to do then was going to the BraveSoftware folder and delete the following subfolders:

SingletonSocket
SingletonLock
SingletonCookie

Now it works like a charm.

Cheers!
