I can't open Brave on Windows 10

Hello,

Suddenly, I can’t open Brave. I’ve tried everything I could find on the internet. I’ve scanned with Malwarebytes, no issues. I run it as an administrator, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with Revo Uninstaller, restarted the computer several times, and I tried the --disable-gpu option. Nothing works.
I can open other browsers, but I want to continue to use Brave, plus all of my most important bookmarks are there.

Does the browser open at all and then crash or will the browser simply not launch? Can you also check and ensure that MWB is not blocking any Brave related processes?

The browser will simply not launch. I had this problem before I installed the Malwarebytes to check for malware.

Can you try right-clicking on the icon in the taskbar and try opening a new private window? If this does not work/behaves the same, can you please test downloading the Beta build
of the browser and seeing if that launches as expected?

@AlanFord running as administrator is generally not a good thing to do. There have been some known issues that arise from it due to changes in Chromium and also how Windows occasionally handles things. I know Mattches is trying to run you through some other things and may be able to get you to a solution.

That said, I’m wondering if your issue might be as was discussed in the topic at Brave doesn't start when I run it as administrator and Brave Shield doesn't work - #41 by clifton, with me linking specifically to one of the guides on how to resolve it.

Also make sure you right click on the icon for Brave → Properties → Compatibility → make sure you have Run this program as an administrator unselected. If that’s selected then it may cause issues. Many were saying Brave won’t launch if that’s selected and disabling it resolves it all.

@Mattches I swear guys, I just turned on my computer and the Brave started working all of a sudden. This is the weirdest thing I have experienced. (I did not run it as administrator, just like I did before). But now, all of my bookmarks, which are very important to me, are gone because I have uninstalled Brave using Revo Uninstaller and deleted everything. It was a stupid thing to do… I have them on my phone but I am afraid of syncing now. Will that delete all of my bookmarks on my phone too?

@AlanFord syncing would first go for parity. This means it will add but not take away.

Once that is established, anything you do will be done to the other. So like syncing bookmarks would add bookmarks to all and not remove. But then after if you delete or add a bookmark, it will happen to all on the sync

@AlanFord you’re welcome – not sure why it happened initially but glad the issue is resolved.
