Brave’s latest version (Brave 1.80.113) won’t launch under Windows 10. There is no error message, the browser simply doesn’t start if I click on it, regardless of whether I run it as administrator or not. I tried reinstalling without removing Brave, removing Brave with Revo Uninstaller and reinstalling, I have tried the Nightly and Beta build. I also tried right-clicking and running as administrator, in addition to or replacement for enabling the administrator option in the properties. None of it worked, and neither did any of the solutions I found on this board.
Steps to reproduce:
- Click on Brave Browser
Expected result:
- Brave runs
Brave Version( check About Brave
): Brave 1.80.113 x64
Additional Information:
I have found a stopgap to restore my browser functionality for now.
Steps:
- I backed up the browser settings under C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware
- I installed an old version of Brave found here: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.79.119 using the BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe.
- I sabotaged Brave’s automatic update by renaming BraveUpdate.exe (found under C:\Program Files (x86)\BraveSoftware\Update) to BraveUpdate_0.exe.
- I reinserted the browser settings and now everything is working again.
In light of this perhaps it would be prudent to have some kind of rollback option that doesn’t require the user to use a mobile phone as a workaround to download an older Brave version.
