I am getting logged out

i am getting logged out to all sites again and again , i didnt do anything , i just opened brave and then i saw that i am logged out of youtube , mail , netlfix , this and happened to me atleast 6 times , i am sick of it , i am thinking to switch to chrome but i am addicted to brave ad block feature , please help me:

it happens suddenly and can happen anytime , app does not gets crashed , everything seems normal until i open youtube and see that sign in option is showing

What settings are you using? That could be your problem.

Also, do you have any settings enabled to do anything like delete cookies on exit? Or on Shields, are you using Forget me when I close this site?

i have checked those settings which you told me , and btw this happens suddenly , it works fine for 2 days and then suddenly i get logged out , if there is a problem with settings then it should have happened time everytime i turn on my laptop

Im having a similar issue. No accounts that I log into stay logged in after I close the window. I do have delete cookies on exit but I also toggled the Forget me when I close this site on those sites so that shouldnt be the issue.

I also followed the steps mentioned by Saoiray in this post (How do I stay logged in?) but those didnt seem to help. Maybe theres an issue with certain hardware or something? Im not super informed on things like this though so thats just spit balling.

@Funktavious these are two different settings. Choosing to delete cookies on Exit will overrule anything else. I would remove that setting and only use the Forget Me When I Close This Site toggle, You can enable it globally at brave://settings/shields/filters and only turn the toggle off on websites you wish to remember you. The per site toggle, as you may be aware, would be found in the Shields icon, which is the image

But there’s no “whitelist” or exemption to selections made under Delete Browsing Data. As such, I’d highly recommend you not use it unless you truly do need to purge everything.

And if you ever choose to delete Site and Shields Settings, this will purge anything you’ve personally toggled for individual site settings. So if you had exemptions on forgetting you, it will (or at least can) erase that and put things back to default.

So I will say again, I’d avoid any options on that…especially under On Exit.

Can you share a screenshot of your Shields settings?

Also, do you have Delete Cookies on Exit or Forget me when I close this site enabled? You mentioned checking them but didn’t specify if they were enabled or disabled.

I ask for specific answers to avoid confusion and ensure we can resolve the issue efficiently.

And some other questions I should have asked:

  1. To confirm, you are saying this is always random and you can’t easily replicate it?
  2. Is it only on these particular websites or all websites?
  3. Do you have any programs like CCleaner, Avast Cleaner, etc that you are using?
  4. Do you have any extensions? If so, can you share what they are?
  5. Does the issue seem to get resolved if you turn off Shields for those particular websites?

Sorry, I meant the Forget me when I close this site toggle under brave://settings/shields in addition to turning it off for specific websites, not delete browsing data on exit. My mistake.

I ended up just reinstalling Brave and it seemed to fix whatever the issue was even though Im using the same settings and extensions. Just figured Id check the forum before trying a fresh install

The same happens to me except I have none of those settings enabled. I’ve tried deleted the UserData entirely and restoring it with an older one but to no avail, I haven’t tried reinstalling yet, but I’m hoping for a fix that requires no reinstall.

EDIT: I am still logged out even in a fresh installation of brave

2ND EDIT: I have tried everything but it does not work, none of my backed up user data folders are corrupted, I’ve even used my oldest but I am still logged out of ALL sites

1 it happens randomly , and just happened with me right now , now i willl have to log in again in all websites and no i cant replicate it
2. all websites , it says me “Brave Quit Unexpectedly” and then boom , all back to default
3. i have Mcafee anitivirus in my laptop
4. no i do not have any extensions installed
5. it has nothing to do with shields
6. and i just checked that all of my saved passwords are also gone


Wait, does this happen every time? If so, that’s an important detail. It sounds like your browser might be crashing or a third-party program is forcibly closing Brave. Can you confirm if this message appears each time it happens? I know you said in your initial post it isn’t crashing, but it may be a different type of crash than you initially was thinking.

Also, please go to brave://crashes and check if anything is listed there. If so, copy and paste the Uploaded Crash Report ID. If you see a Send Now button, click it, then close Brave for 30-90 seconds to allow the crash reports to upload. Reopen Brave, go back to brave://crashes, and copy and paste (not screenshot, but copy and paste) the Uploaded Crash Report ID. This will help Brave’s team investigate the issue.

i clicked on send now button on all crash , closed the app and waited for 90 sec and then i reopened it n i was getting this

and i clicked on provide additional details and it took me to github , idk what to do next

Which is the info asked for. But rather than screenshot like you shared, I wanted you to copy the info and paste it here. The reason for asking to copy and paste is because otherwise people have to stare and manually type it out, which is time consuming and has a chance for error. If you copy and paste it directly, then all they have to do is then copy the information and look it up, which makes it faster/easier and highly unlikely for any typos or anything to happen.

@Shinoi I apologize, it looks like I didn’t get a notification about your reply and didn’t get to tag @Mattches. It is currently the weekend when Support is usually off. I have now tagged, but likely he won’t be on and see it until after Monday, at which point he would have to forward it to developers. Sorry for the delay. Wish I could get access to things to try to figure it out, but I don’t work at Brave and so am limited on what I can do.

hey , the frequency of those increased rapidly and now i am not even getting pop up “brave quits unexpectedly” , now every time i am opening my laptop , i am getting logged out of sites , but there is this one site ( can be others but i observed about one only) that never gets logged out , site name is pw.live (its a study website) but my netflix , swiggy , youtube , brave community , amazon etx gets logged out , and no crashes are there in

even though i keep getting logged out , there are no crashes in there
i told this because i thought maybe it would help you , and whats the update on those crash report id if you could tell

I’m sure @steeven and/or @Mattches should follow up with you soon. Can’t say they’ll necessarily have results from crash report, but assuming they should be able to respond to let you know they are aware and possibly offer some suggestions based on what has been discussed. Then hopefully they can look into crash reports you shared as well.

I’m a little bit confused on what’s happening at this point. If the browser is closed and you launch it, what do you see exactly? Does it crash immediately? If it does, how are you able to tell that it’s still keeping you logged out of sites?

Additionally:

  • Can you please try disabling your anti-virus software for a moment and test to see if the issue with Brave persists?
  • Can you please (if you can keep the browser open long enough) launch Brave, go to Menu --> More tools — > Add new profile and try logging into a few sites, closing/relaunching that profile and tell me if the issue persists in the new profile as well?
