When using Brave on my MacBook Pro, and there are multiple windows open, there are occasions when I find it necessary to minimize one of the windows without closing the browser altogether. The window completely with all open tabs closes automatically and I’m unable to re-open it. Am currently running the latest version of Brave 1.50.121 as well as the latest version of the OS software (Ventura 13.3.1). How may I go about resolving this issue?

@noname2,
Hello and thank you for reaching out to us.
So when you go to minimize these windows, do you use the minimize button on the top-left (shown below) to do so? Or via some other method?

Additionally, can you confirm for me whether or not you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time?
Hello, Mattches. Yes, I use the minimize button onthe top-left. And, yes, I do have extensions in the browser. There are seven total but they’ve never caused this problem before.
I see — and do the windows end up closing (that is, they close completely and the browser needs to be relaunched from the icon in the doc) as they’re minimized or does it happen when you try to open them from their minimized position? Further, when minimized, do they appear at the bottom on the dock like so?

Not all of the windows close…only those that I minimize. And, after doing so, I’ve not found a way to re-open them from their minimized position as it doesn’t seem that they’ve been minimized. It’s as though I’ve completely closed those windows. (I do use an extension that helps with tab organization called OneTab and it’s been terrific. I’ve not experienced any problems with it all. It’s a pinned extension and I can use it to place all open tabs in a single window…in vertical fashion.) I can go through the Brave history and re-open some of the tabs but there are others that I don’t recall by looking at the history. Lastly, when minimized, these windows don’t appear anywhere on the dock. Hope this helps you help me! Thanks!
@noname2,
Thank you for the information. I would wager that at least one of the extensions you’re using has made a change (or something has changed with us internally) and now they are not working correctly. Can you please try the following test?
- Launch Brave, go to
Main Menu —> Create new profile
- Create a new profile that we will use only for this test
- Once created, you should have a new, fresh Brave Window open. Please close your original profile window, such that only one Brave Window (with the newly created profile) is open
- Visit a site or two in the new profile window, then click the minimize button as you normally would
Can you please tell me if the behavior is the same or if it is now minimizing as it should?
Hi, Mattches –
After following your instructions, I opened a profile and minimized it. I couldn’t find it at first and that’s when I noticed “Profiles” in the list of main menu items. It’s most embarrassing to admit, I didn’t know profiles existed!
There are three profiles now established, including the test profile. It appears that I can minimize and maximize them at will. I deleted the second profile which had no history…I don’t even know how I created it although I do recall doing something along those lines. (I learned long, long ago not to fear trying things on computers but it can get me into trouble.
)
So, it turns out this was simply a lack of knowledge on my part…no bewitching extensions at all!
Thank you, Mattches, for your assistance and for teaching me something new as well!
This answers my question and the request for information can be signed off or completed in this topic.
I appreciate your assistance.
Kind regards,
Cheryl

@noname2,
You’re very welcome — glad we were able to resolve the issue! Thank you for your support and have a wonderful day!
This morning, it happened again. A window with multiple tabs closed all on its own. I have multiple profiles and they were working fine last Friday. I searched every profile and none of the tabs were on any of the other profiles. I cleared the cache, closed and reopened Brave but to no avail.
Please reply with assistance.
I’ve been searching the same website for at least the last 12 months and it always come up. Now, when searching for it, the result is misspelled and I have to select the correct spelling. Why is this happening?
@noname2,
When you say it “closed on its own” do you mean that you were on your computer working with this window and it just randomly closed/disappeared?
Additionally, any time a Window with multiple tabs is closed, it should re-appear in the history pop-out when clicking on the main menu (shown below). Can you confirm that you do not see this listed anywhere on your profiles?

Hi, Mattches –
Thanks for your reply!
I believe I’d minimized the window and clicking on the history tab I was able to see the sites listed in vertical order. I was unable, however to open them as a group but only each and every one on an individual basis. (I’ve been accustomed to using an extension called “One Tab” which, once activated, opens a new tab with the entire tab history listed in a group. The tabs may be opened one at a time, deleted one at a time, opened as a group or deleted as a group. The group of tabs may be renamed and locked/unlocked as well.)
I’m glad you mentioned the history pop-out…I’d not heard of that before. Here’s a screenshot (below my signature) of my most recent experience closing a window with multiple tabs and seeing the history ‘pop-out’ – what I see now (but have never seen before) is where it says “15 tabs” and then an option to restore all tabs. This is nice to know! Is this a new feature in Brave? This feature is similar to the One Tab extension I mentioned above but it works slightly differently.
Thanks again!
Cheryl
No this feature is not new, just a little hidden
Hi, Mattches –
Thanks for the tip!
May I ask how I can go about getting search results that are better matched to my search requests? As an example, I’ll enter “gettr” and the results will come back with “getty” and do I really want to search for “gettr”?
If I need to direct this question elsewhere, please just let me know and I’ll gladly do so.
Thanks!!
Cheryl
This depends on where you are searching (what search engine) and what the exact behavior you want to see is. Are you seeing this behavior on search.brave.com or some other engine?
Hi, Mattches –
I open Brave and, after opening a new tab, I enter the search term – here’s a screenshot of the results when searching for ‘gettr’ –
Thanks,
Cheryl
Hello, Mattches –
This is a yet another issue that I’ve been experiencing and one I would like assistance with:
I was looking for information on personal finance for women and entered these search terms into “search.brave.com”:
“how to get a handle on personal finance for women”. Many of the search results were expected once I saw them but there were two that are disgusting in my opinion and, for the life of me, I don’t know how they appeared. I’ve taken a screenshot and attached it below my signature. The two results I’m referring to are #'s 4 and 5 (the numbers are in RED font and are placed just above and to the left of the search results.
I’m not trying to offend you or anyone. But, I don’t care for this kind of language. I am not a prude but this kind of result is getting more and more common when I search for things in Brave so much so that, I’m strongly considering finding another browser.
Please let me know what I can do or how best I can enter search terms to eliminate or at least overwhelmingly reduce this kind of language from showing up in my search results.
Kind regards,
Cheryl
The first issue (getty
vs gettr
) I believe is just a matter of time as the number of people who search for gettr (on search.brave.com) is likely low.
As for the other issue, unfortunately there is no way to completely censor the web in this way. These results may naturally get down ranked over time but other than that there’s not much you can do for this on Brave Search — or any search engine really. I would suggest adjusting the Safe Search
filter but I don’t think that the results/language used is strong enough to be filtered.
There is a feedback button you can use to write to the devs directly here, where you can explain your concerns:
Hello, Mattches –
I really appreciate your taking the time to reply! I wasn’t sure if you would do so since my most recent remark/feedback was rather strident!
Thank you for the information…it is helpful and I will provide feedback to the devs team.
Here’s to a great day!
Cheryl

Hello, Mattches –
The original problem (windows closing automatically) appears to be happening again. I created multiple profiles and have looked through the history of each of them and only one profile has the associated pages I was looking for but there is no option to “restore” them. Do you have any other advice? Should I delete the other profiles? That doesn’t appear to be a fix but perhaps it’s related or actually causing the problem. Thanks!
