Grey page when brave is unfocused/inactive/not in screen

Description: The page starts getting rendered/drawn (do not know the technical term) when Brave is back in focus. This is a problem since it takes half a second for the page to appear again and it is a bit jarring. When a video is playing in say Youtube, the sound keeps playing in the background but the video is replaced by a white placeholder (in this case curiously, the site itself is visible with the exception of the video) when Brave is not in active screen. Google Chrome or Edge Chromium, two other Chromium based browsers on my computer don’t show the same behavior. This might be a feature intended to save some performance but that half second flash is jarring to me. It’ll be great if there was a flag to disable it.

Steps to Reproduce: Switch to different desktop workspace and switch back.

Result: Grey screen for half second

.

Expected Result: The site itself immediately.

Operating System and Brave Version: Windows 10/0.65.121

+1. I noticed this as well.

Started happening to me as well recently, but it lasts longer than half a second. Sometimes it lasts up to twenty seconds (but usually resolves within ten seconds) and persists even if I exit and restart Brave. Sometimes it also persists into newly open tabs, but there seems to be no pattern as to which sites provoke this behaviour, because it doesn’t happen on all tabs with all sites, and sometimes sites that will load properly and quickly at one occasion will buffer like this on another.

Happens 100% of the time after waking computer from sleep. Happens only some of the time if I navigated away from Brave for a while. Hardware acceleration is off.
