Greek spell check does not work

Description of the issue:

No matter how many times I tried, the Greek spell check cannot be downloaded. I tried on Linux Mint, but also on Fedora.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Follow the Brave installation steps from the official page: https://brave.com/linux/
  2. Open Brave browser. After the first step, you will find Brave in the operating system menu.
  3. Follow this path: Settings > Languanges > Spell check
  4. See if you can download the Greek spell check.

Expected result:

Underline the words I typed incorrectly with a red line and when I right click on the words, suggested correct words should appear.

Actual Result:

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.57.47 Chromium: 116.0.5845.96 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

Either I have the operating system in English, or I have it in Greek, the problem still exists.

Hello,
Could you please try first to remove the brave data directory using the command:
rm -rf ~/.config/BraveSoftware and then try to add greek dictionary again?

I tried the command but unfortunately it didn’t solve the problem. I still get the same error message.

It’s pretty important for me to have spell check working in the browser.

I’ve tried different operating systems, sometimes the spell check download works fine and sometimes an error occurs. I still can’t figure out where the problem is coming from. I’m using Fedora and I’m trying to download the spell checker, but I’m getting an error. I put Debian on my computer, same error again. I run Fedora again on the computer, the spell checker downloads normally. I try various Linux distros and finally go back to Fedora, still get the error. I don’t understand what’s going on.

I installed Google Chrome, I downloaded the Greek spell check normally without a problem. I copied the Greek dictionary from the Chrome files, moved it to Brave’s Dictionaries folder and the spell check works normally.

.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Dictionaries/

But this is a temporary solution. For me it is quite important to have the spell check of my language in the browser. So much so that I ended up using Firefox for a while. I hope the Brave team fixes the problem and we don’t have to go through such procedures. Other than that Brave is an amazing browser.
